Hi All, I received this message via LinkedIn ... If you are using Matterport and Revit and AutoCAD, kindly comment below. If you have experience using Faro and Matterport, that's a plus ... Thanks, Dan -- Architect, is interested in Matterport Cameras Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii, I am an architect, and I have pondered for a long time about getting a Faro Laser Point Cloud Workstation, but have hesitated, because of the price. I need a way to capture 3d interior and exterior buildings image data for importing into Revit and AutoCAD. Is the Matterport Camera well suited for this task? Best regards, [redacted], Architect, NCARB |

Outdoor could be difficult on this sunny island. Also the question is: - what does he want exactly achieve? - how clean does he need the data? I would recommend to try his workflow with test data from MP. |

Until we get more of the Raw data from Matterport, all our hope are still on the BLK360 and LaSirisVR. Yes, it's possible to use the XYZ in Autocad, Inventor, Revit, but this mean you get to remodel everything, and not efficiently IMO. Archicad does it best, given what we see from Danny Basting. Outdoor is obviously not possible with a structured light solution, Lidar or photogrammetry give much better results. | ||

I may rewrite my workflow posts that are spread out all across the thread I created into a convenient (easier to read up on) article / post. In the meanwhile, here's my two cents on it: The Matterport pointcloud data has allowed me to speed up both workflow quite a bit. Not only am I faster taking measurements on site, I can also create a current state CAD file in a shorter period of time. That being said, I always take extra measurements by hand, especially for the exteriors. Matterport just isn't suited for exteriors. I did some scans outside, but you only have a small time window to do so during a day. You just can't plan for that.. And even if you did, you won't get the entire elevation because the camera just won't reach high enough while scanning outdoors. Like @NicolasMorency mentioned I use ArchiCad, and I am quite happy with the way the camera data has speed up my workflow. If I was in the market for a scanning solution today, and was able to wait for a little while, I'd see what the upcoming new solutions like the BLK360 for example can provide. @mori created a post about that one a little while ago if I am not mistaken. |
