Trying to find method of scanning small apt with doors open and closed. If I wanted to walk into a senior living apt; do I scan the hallway door closed; next door open; walk into the space with door open and then scan again with door closed? And special markings? Thanks!! | ||

Here's an example of an apartment we did a couple years ago: Doors down hallways remained closed but were then opened as we got to them. |

@Wonderdawg, I have found that the best approach to creating a space where the doors appear to open and shut as in @Queen_City_3D's example is to first scan the entire space with all of the doors open. You will want to be sure that you have a scan on each side of the open door. Once this as been done, you will want to re-scan each room with the doors shut. You only need to scan in actual spots where you want the viewer to navigate. Also, you do not need to scan directly in front of the closed door since this is where you want the door to appear to open. Once you are done re-scanning the space, you will want to use the trim tool to remove the "barrier" created in the 3D mesh for each doorway. This is done by creating a "trim sandwich" where you will place a trim marker on each side of the doorway with the arrows pointing towards each other. You may even want to create a box around the doorway with all arrows pointing inward to ensure any artifacts are removed from the final model. Once the model has finished processing, hide all of the scans that were made when the doors were open except the scans directly in front of or behind the door that you want to "open". This process is a bit time consuming and you may still have issues even if you follow all of these steps. So, please keep this in mind when billing for this type of project and be aware that this will probably take you at least twice as long as a normal scan since you have to scan the space twice and will inevitably have alignment issues when re-scanning the space with the doors shut. I hope this helps and good luck! JonJ |
