Video: Matterport's Capture Firmware Update | Video Courtesy of Matterort YouTube Channel Hi All, Matterport just published a press release about beta testing Capture and Publish to Google Street View. Best, Dan --- Google Street View Publishing and Faster Space Capture Increase ROI for Matterport Customers Across Multiple Industries Sunnyvale, Calif., January 10, 2018 -- Matterport, an immersive 3D media technology company, today announced open betas for publishing to Google Street View and new camera firmware enabling faster space capture. These two significant initiatives are expected to create more business opportunities for Matterport’s thousands of customers across numerous industries, including restaurants, retail, travel and hospitality, real estate, and architecture, construction and engineering. Google Street View Publishing With Matterport’s rollout of Google Street View publishing capabilities, Matterport users will be able to quickly create and publish a Google Street View experience from any Matterport 3D Space with the click of a button. Matterport 3D Spaces can now be exported to show up on Google Maps, Google Earth, and the mobile Street View application as fully linked panoramic photo tours, driving additional traffic to businesses' websites. Clients get the best of both worlds, leveraging the highly immersive Matterport 3D experience of a company’s space on their website and publishing a 360 tour on Street View. “Google Street View publishing and faster space capture are two of the many initiatives that greatly increase the value of Matterport for camera operators, as well as businesses that want to use Google to drive people to their websites,” said Bill Brown, Matterport CEO. “Matterport is the solution of choice for all types of businesses because our automation makes it easy for anyone to quickly capture a space and get a high-quality 3D environment. Now this content can be experienced as a Matterport immersive 3D environment on a business’ website and can also be used to published as a Google Street View experience on Google Maps, Google Earth, or mobile Street View.” Publishing a Google Street View experience from a Matterport 3D Space only takes a few minutes and enables Matterport Service Partners to expand their services by providing superior walkthroughs for clients and prospective customers. Google Street View photographers can rely on Matterport for a faster and easier publishing process. Since creation of a 3D space is automated, there is no need to manually stitch 360 panoramas, place and orient each of them on a map, and manually link the tours together. Photographers now only need a Matterport camera to get the job done, as opposed to using 360 and DSLR cameras, which often require additional equipment and software. Faster Space Capture to Increase ROI for Camera Owners In addition to expanding its distribution capabilities, Matterport has dramatically shortened the already brief onsite time it takes to capture a Matterport 3D Space, increasing the ROI for customers by reducing the labor cost for content creation. This latest camera firmware update speeds up the camera rotation, enabling customers to scan spaces in a fraction of the time. The speed increase comes from a free firmware update, requires no additional equipment, and will work for all Pro2 and Pro Matterport cameras. The quality of 2D imagery and 3D data will remain unchanged. Check out this video to see just how much faster the Matterport camera can scan. As the only automated all-in-one solution, Matterport empowers users to generate cutting-edge 3D experiences, high-resolution 2D photography, and a wide range of other shareable assets that can be used to differentiate businesses in the market and improve customer experiences. @LeventeSolczi - @TrustedPhotoDC and I were given first round access in mid-December along with a small group of others. It was somewhat of a first-run before the public BETA. The first round had some TINY bugs that made a world of difference that needed ironing out. This was resolved and now you'll get those e-mails Why did it take so long to get to this point? GSV's API was a mystery box that arrived later than most expected and there have been a lot of moving pieces. Even NOW, there are some moving pieces with GSV that many Matterport users will be discussing in the coming days -- things that anyone who has been reading @WGA has heard us talk about Matterport's GSV Solution is not a total solution -- but what it is is PROFOUND and the first turn-key, end to end solution that provides perfect accuracy in placement of panos in relation to each other. The two were made for each other |

What are the thoughts about hosting fees after GSV? I'm trying to understand the reasons for my customers to continue to pay me a hosting fee once the space is available in GSV. One of the enticing business reasons I jumped on the Matterport bankwagon was the residual income potential. Curious what other people are thinking about the situation. | ||

@808virtually hosting fees has not been part of the pricing model with Street View, and before that Business View or Business Photos for most, if close to all trusted photographers. Until September 2015, Google's agreement which ever TiP or Agency had to use and were not allowed to alter, assigned the copyright of the photos to the business owner that the virtual tour and POI photos where taken of. The hosting fee model does work for some if they use a 3rd party overlay atop of Street View, but then this gets yo back to what you are essentially doing with a Matterport Space. |

@808virtually Quote: Originally Posted by @808virtually In one of a dozen WGAN-TV Live at 5 shows on pricing, I discuss How to Price Matterport to Google Street View Publishing. I talk at length - an hour - about charging hosting and maintenance for Google Street View. This would let you charge less upfront and then recurring revenue monthly or annually. For sake of simplicity, let's say you are going to shoot a house for sale for $1,000. If you a shoot for a retail store of the same SQ FT (in this example), you might charge $499 to do the shoot and $49 a month. This means. This means, after 10 months, you will make more money than shooting the house for sale. Or, you could charge $249 to do the shoot and $49 month and in 15 month, you will make more money than shooting the house for sale. Since you are the publisher of the Google Street View Tour, you can remove the tour (if your client stops paying). Maintenance might include swapping out the tripod patch with a new client logo. Updating the tour (small fee) for some portion of the space that changes, etc. Just because Google Street View does not charge you for hosting does not mean that you can't price it that way. You might have a "buy out" price and rental pricing, as I discuss briefly above. Careful not to assign the copyright or ability to change the tour to your client. It's your intellectual property. I could imagine that @TrustedPhotoDC will disagree with some or all that I have just discussed. I look forward to his response. (Might make a great episode of WGAN-TV Live at 5 ...) If you are using a solution other than Matterport to capture 360ºs, I encourage you to look at Panoskin Pro (WGAN Forum Discussions | WGAN-TV Live at 5: Panoskin for Newbies). In 2Q18, Panoskin plans to release a great solution for enhancing Google Street View 360ºs when embedded on a client website. (Tags such as: photo, audio, links, shopping, etc.) Your thoughts on the above? Best, Dan |

Quote:Originally Posted by DanSmigrod I can see charging hosting/maintenance when no one else does it being a severe mark against one's credibility and an easy way for your competition to eat you for lunch. Now, if you want to make a residual income from your GSV Clients -- you might come up with a service contract wherein you charge a nominal monthly fee and include value features such as: - Matterport Space Hosting - Extended Image Edit request time. - Reshoots (Define extent based on comfort level) - 10% Discount on future shoots - Extended Customer Support - One Page Website? Then sure, add it as a bonus. But charging hosting for something that Google is hosting for free is shooting yourself in the foot. |
