Anyone use converted OBJ files for clients?3091

Hi all,

I have read a lot about converting the obj files into CAD or BIM files but still need a little help. I have a new client who has bought a 7500 sq.ft. villa and wants to remodel several things in his new home. I have offered to scan his empty home and have the file converted into a 3D model. If I understand this correctly he can take the converted file and send it to his contractor/architects and they can "play around" with his home in their 3D software, correct? Is there anything I should be aware of or any good advice you could give me before I go through with this?

Really appreciate the help
Barry

I'm also interested in doing the same . I gave some test files to a designer who works with CAD and so far he's said they have not been much use to him. I've also signed up for Matterports beta program where you can access the cloud point files. I'm hoping these will prove if more use to my designer.

To be honest the obj files are useless in CAD software. I did a conversion myself for testing purposes creating a CAD model from a pointcloud. You can read more about it in the thread I started in the link below.
