Ricoh Z1 or Insta360 One X - extending WiFi range?11294

| There are a lot of brilliant people in the WGAN family. I'm wondering if someone has learned a way to extend the range between a Z1 or One X and the iPhone which controls them. I know that the Ricoh can be connected to a local network as a link, but that's not what I mean. I mean boosting the distance by means of some small antenna or battery-powered booster which can be strapped to the Z1's monopod - a stand alone system. Thanks for any ideas. Stay safe. Be well. |

| @Home3D Full disclosure: I haven't tried this, but in theory, if you have a WiFi access point, or similar device, which is capable of being set up as a bridge, you can intercept the WiFi signal produced by the Ricoh camera and amplify it (bi-directionally) between the camera and your smartphone. The above creates at least two questions: 1) Must you set the bridge for a specific WiFi channel, or could it handle this as a broadband device, which covers all of the 2.4GHz band (all 11 overlapping channels)? 2) The next issue is how to power it. There are likely a few (at least) devices that could handle this task, but require 115VAC power, which would be tough to do on a tripod, or something strapped to the person carrying the smartphone. Why not consult on this with Ricoh Tech Support and just ask if they have a solution? If you and, presumably, others have had the same issues maintaining WiFi connections to the Ricoh Theta camera, they may already have a few ideas. |

| @Home3D Perfect and sorry I didn't have an immediate, pre-tested, solution to share. Even if Ricoh doesn't have any solutions that are immediately deployable, I will be big money that we can identify a suitable solution and, hopefully, one that is powered by USB vs. 115VAC.
