Video: Matterport Academy Marking Windows, Mirrors, and Trim (Lesson 4) with Matterport Content Marketing Manager Amir Frank | Video courtesy of Matterport YouTube Channel (28 September 2017) Hi All, If you are just getting started with Matterport, here is Lesson 4 of 11 from the Matterport Academy Marking Windows, Mirrors, and Trim (Lesson 4) (above) with Matterport Content Marketing Manager Amir Frank. Video Transcript Hi, I'm Amir from Matterport, and today, we're going to talk about marking features. Almost every model you scan will require you to mark features. Markings are like hints about the environment that the [Matterport] Capture app uses to build a better and cleaner 3D space. There are three different kinds of features you can mark: mirrors, windows and trim. The most important one is the mirror marking. This is because mirrors can affect alignment. Overall, this affects how quickly you can scan and the overall quality of your 3D space. Place a mirror marking as soon as you can see the mirror on the mini-map. Be sure the arrow points in the same direction as the mirror. Tap the arrow button to swap the orientation. If you get an alignment error and you're within five to eight feet of your previous scan, check that all mirrors are marked and then scan again. For windows on exterior walls, only windows on the main level need to be marked. Window markings prevent 3D data from the outside being included in the model. Windows on interior walls do not need to be marked, but they can be if you want to prevent navigation through the glass. Never mark a window or a mirror that is directly above a doorway or a pathway. This is because a marking there will block navigation through the doorway, which is not what you want. This commonly happens for homes with a window above the door or mirror above the door. The trim marking removes extra 3D data, which is also called spray, so that the dollhouse and floor plan views look good. For most normal walls, trim markings are not necessary. To place a marking, first navigate and zoom into the appropriate spot in the mini-map. Tap, mark features, and then choose your type of marking. Tap and drag on the mini-map to set the beginning and the end point of the marking. Once the marking is set, you can tap and drag the end point or drag the center to move the line altogether. --- Best, Dan P.S.
