The only problem I see with this option is, agents think a cell phone will give them good enough photos for the listing. I just see this as another item that agents will find and think this might work for them. In the article Matterports own comparison is they talk about their pro camera being comparative to an upscale DSLR. So it seems to be a neat tool but I do not see it as a competitive tool at this point but something that may give agents another reason to use their phone in hopes of an adequate product for them. So that again is counterintuitive in my eyes, but I know Matterports goal is to have a portable device. Ron |

matterport has to do this to stay relevant. they won't be the only game in town for long and we'll be shooting video tours like this on our phones easily. matter port's already dummy proof. others will make it more dummy proof and everyone will have this technology. Won't be selling these cameras at 4500 a piece any longer, especially with the outside shoot issues. | ||

are they also stitching the images together or is it just the 3D scan The 3D scan is very low quality if all they are doing is showing of the 3D depth sensor of the tango phone |

The tango tech will be something that will help on the mesh side I think most. Ie we will be able to use under tables behind couches. Something that can add to a scanned mesh for more detail. Though with such detail you may be able to roam around like in mesh mode through the better quality showcase which would be good. Would be great to also be able to use to scan objects like tables, chairs, etc etc that we can then import to a scanned space that was empty for can be furnished. That may be over kill though if can just have generics. |

Some great ideas with project Tango but after almost two years it is still just available to beta user and developers. I wish someone would start developing an overall product. I like this latest feature and it would help our industry, unless I am missing something, has anyone seen a usable public application. Ron |

@smcclell I think this is more photogrammetry then project Tango, but the key point is this is processed on you phone, which is amazing. This is similar to a software I use that does the same thing and now they have started automating it to work with videos with similar output. But the key difference I have to run this on a desktop where your find is great because it is done on your phone, but I wonder if in the background the data is sent to a cloud server and processed similar to Autodesks catch123. This is the software automatically doing similar from video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC31BfOK1UA Great find. Ron |

Within the next two years we will see people every where with their smartphones walking and turning around 360 and shoot 3D imagage like pictures. 2D will be reduced to old school. The next step will be that we don't have to turn arround but use the multiple camers in our smartphone to take the 360 pictures. Stiching will e done direct in the smartphone. Its going to be there sooner than we think. Happy scanning, Grtz Rene. |

It was perhaps a bit dramatic a comment i made that could be read as foreboding, with a coming doom haha. I agree with you..i did not mean this will replace MP. If anything, with matterport already experimenting with tango it could open up some exciting complimentary options. Lets hope so! |
