GSV vs. Matterport8764

izoneguy private msg quote post Address this user
Back when Google started selling virtual tours - that is pretty much when I dropped out of doing pano photography. It did not seem like it was a worthwhile venture. Fast forward five years and I have had to re-start my company because I was laid off from what I thought was going to be my retirement gig. So I have been looking on Google maps and notice almost all businesses have some sort of pano I assume done by GSV pano photographers? So are these folks now using Matterport? I am still a little fuzzy on how to integrate Matterport with GSV. I have read everything but maybe someone who does that can answer a few of my questions.
1.) To integrate a Matterport tour into GSV do you have to be a GSV "Trusted Photographer"?
2.) I see it costs $14.95 to integrate a Matterport tour into a Google "space". Is that cost for one year? Or as long as the Matterport tour is active?
3.) If a client has an existing GSV tour that was shot a few years ago - will the Matterport tour take its place or will it exist side by side with the GSV version?
4.) Can an owner of a business take down GSV tours and photos?
5.) Does Google own all the GSV content?
Thanks

Yes...

2.) I see it costs $14.95 to integrate a Matterport tour into a Google "space". Is that cost for one year? Or as long as the Matterport tour is active?
Not sure - don't use matterport but I'd suspect this is their one time publishing fee

3.) If a client has an existing GSV tour that was shot a few years ago - will the Matterport tour take its place or will it exist side by side with the GSV version?
Not automatically. Depending who is the owner of the images, that person has to delete them unless Google accepts a 'complaint' of sorts via the 'report a problem' requesting the old ones be taken down as not representative of the business. Usually the right way to go about it is to ask the rightfull image owner to take them down.... and then, that is someothing google doesn't always get right.

4.) Can an owner of a business take down GSV tours and photos?
only if they are the owner. Most photographers don't give up ownership even though Google would prefer that, stating it is supposed to have some unknown impact on rankings.

5.) Does Google own all the GSV content?
No - at least that... thankfully they'd made it clear that photos published since the big changes back in Sept 2015 and then in Sept 2016, the photographer owns the images unless they transfer the rights. 360 images shot before then belong to Google though.

Thanks
