| I am interested in buying the Matterport Pro light. I have sent two engineer friends the sample OBJ files from Matterport website but the engineers are unable to transfer and open in autocad. Have you provided any archetects and or engineers with either the OBJ or point cloud files? Have they been successful with the file? I am interested in “as-builts” aspect to the Matterport business model but so far can’t get the sample files to work for these engineers to see how useful it could be. Matterport so far says it’s not there issue but a software third party. Any advice would be appreciated. Matterport website says it’s real easy but so far it isn’t. Thanks in advance for your help. | ||

| Autocad doesn’t use .obj files. It uses DWG files. So to import into Autocad, you will need to convert the obj file. Using the point cloud, this can be imported into Recap and Revit. |

| @Gregconway It is best to import OBJ files 1st into a native 3D Viz program (that OBJ originally are made for) like 3DSMax or Blender (Blender is free) then export from one of these program to AutoCAD. When MP2FP get jobs from forum members to convert and establish 3D DWG models from Matterpack data we prefer to use the XYZ file (it has higher accuracy than the OBJ file) and then insert it into Autodesk Recap (https://www.autodesk.com/products/recap) before we open and checking it in REVIT then export it directly to AutoCAD. Be as well aware that if your client want most accurate and detailed buildings models you should as well consider to buy another type of more dedicated building scanner like from Topcon or Faro or similar. |
