CUPIX Video Tutorial: How to Publish a 3D Tour to Google Street View | Video Courtesy of CUPIX YouTube Channel

---

Hi All,

Publishing a 3D Tour to Google Street View (GSV) is super-easy via Matterport and CUPIX.

So if you are using Matterport - or thinking about buying Matterport - why consider CUPIX for publishing 3D Tours to Google Street View?

1. Unlimited publishing to Google Street View – included in the CUPIX Studio Pack Add On for $29 monthly [(versus likely $19 per Matterport 3D Tour (up to 100 scans)], when Matterport exits its public beta. (Still in beta, as of today (Friday, 6 July 2018).

2. Adjust Color – Before publishing to Google, you can adjust the following from your browser:

✓ Brightness
✓ Contrast
✓ Hue
✓ Saturation
✓ Gamma
✓ Vibrance
✓ Plus, you can APPLY ALL. (With Matterport, you can not adjust color in any way.

3. Blur Unwanted Areas – you can blur unwanted areas with the CUPIX interactive blur tool with pixel-radius control (people, confidential).

With Matterport, you can not edit or blur imagery in scans. [Hide scans in Matterport Workshop or "If possible, you can also go back to the site, cover the private information with a paper or cloth, and then rescan," says Matterport (as of today, Friday, 6 July 2018). @advancedhdr 's workaround is to use MatterTags to hide a logo, for example.]

According to the 17 May 2018 Matterport Newsletter, its beta Face Blurring feature - "automatically detect faces and blur them. This helps address privacy concerns when needed. This is not reversible, so you may want to experiment with a copy of a job before using for production work," says the Newsletter.

Note: Matterport is beta testing Face Blurring, as reported in the WGAN Forum here. Unfortunately, it either processes successfully - or not.

The Matterport Service Provider does not have control over the blurring.

4. Nadir Logo Patch (marketing area) - Add a nadir tripod logo patch for your or your Client. Matterport does not allow nadir logo patches.

5. Large Spaces – With CUPIX, you can use any 360º 1-click camera (such as a Ricoh Theta V) which enables easily shooting 50,000 SQ FT locations. With Matterport, you can use the Matterport and Leica BLK360 Cameras. While the BLK360 can cover a great distance, it costs a lot more than a Ricoh Theta V and, if you place the BLK360 far apart, when you "walk the space," you will be leap frogging instead of walking between scan points.

Matterport Workaround

If you publish to Google Street View from Matterport - and are not happy with the "walking experience," lack of nadir patch, blurring or color correction (lack of), you can engage MP2SV - Chris Hickman @Metroplex360 – to provide concierge service to fix ...

DYI Google Street View Tour Moderation

If you would prefer to shoot 360ºs with a 1-click 360º camera and publish directly to Google Street View, you can use a moderator tool, such as Panoskin Pro.

What's your experience been publishing from Matterport to Google Street View or CUPIX to Google Street View? Feel free to embed examples using the 3D Tour menus above. (For GSV, please use the short URL.)

Best,

Dan

and then you get this malarky that still needs editing. Can Cupix edit the constellation before publishing to GSV?

This is my bad: not CUPIX. I was lazy at moderating before publishing to CUPIX.

In fact, after I published this GSV example from CUPIX, @scott_cupix emailed me the following ...

"(2) in the hotel you shot, there were so many connections. You can choose to remove some of these connections. This would be a minor issue."

The full email from Scott appears below ...

Hi Dan,

From my understanding and various testing, Cupix dictates the connections. There is some freedom to make connections that Google assumes, but for the most part the connections made in Cupix are propagated into the tour.

So long as make sure you can (1) fully navigate the tour and (2) consider reducing the number of connections to and you will be set withe a high quality tour.

Issues if ...

(1) if you can't navigate the the tour in Cupix, you won't in GSV either. For example if you don't link ("connect" in Cupix) the inside of the hotel with the front of the hotel, then you won't be able to navigate between inside and outside. This would be a critical issue.

(2) in the hotel you shot, there were so many connections. You can choose to remove some of these connections. This would be a minor issue.

Best,

Scott

Another differentiator between CUPIX and Matterport is that you likely can successfully moderator a CUPIX-->Google Street View Tour with the links that YOU want.

As @scott@cupix pointed out (above):

A WGAN Member emailed me:

"Matterport Spaces have always generated a list of 'nearest neighbors' that Showcase uses. Showcase will calculate the distance to each nearest neighbor upon entering a scan and use the input from the user and the 'distances' to automatically calculate your next logical step."

"... Matterport ...just took the nearest neighbors list and created links to all of them. Nothing intelligent done here at all."

If I understand all the above about CUPIX and Matterport, it means that CUPIX likely gives the account holder control over moderation where Matterport does not.

@TrustedPhotoDC

Since you - and @Metroplex360 - are the resident experts in the WGAN Forum Community, it would be awesome if you could weigh-in on this topic.

Again, my bad not moderating the hotel example in CUPIX before publishing it to Google Street View.

Best,

Dan
