Hi All,

Saw this gem in another WGAN Forum Discussion ...

2018 is the Year of Google Street View

It deserves its own discussion ...

Dan

My big bet / hope is that Facebook launches a competing program [to Google Street View] wherein [Matterport Service Providers] can submit tours to their platform that are integrated into a place's Facebook page.

Imagine ... Matterport + GSV + FPVR. 3 products / services from one shoot.

Dear Matterport,

This is BIG THINKING from @Metroplex360.

Please go make it happen in 2018.

This would create HUGE VALUE for the Matterport Community.

Happy New Year,

Dan

That is some forward thinking (dreaming) @metroplex360 ! It would be a major leg up for FB if that integration could happen. Here's to hoping 2018 is the year to be in this industry.

There's gotta be a secondary platform for panoramic tours that cover the real world. Yes, Google has years of backlogged tours that have been generated -- however, the imagery needs to be maintained and images from 2015 are dated in quality. This is the sort of thing that a major player like Facebook can get involved with. Facebook has the marketing platform to support monetizing it and making a rewarding platform.

I cannot think of anyone else who might do it. OpenStreetMap.org could do it, I suppose -- or I could imagine Facebook making a hefty contribution to the platform and partnering with them.
