Matterport Spaces 3D Tour by We Get Around Google Street View of SAME Matterport Space (converted by MP2SV powered by @Metroplex360 (before Matterport asked @Metroplex360 to stop promoting this Matterport to Google Street View publishing service. -- Hi All, A Member of the WGAN Forum emailed me the following this morning (Saturday, 16 December 2017). I plan to reply on Monday. How would you compare Matterport to Google Street View? [Note: I added the links below for context] Happy holidays, Dan --- Hi Dan, Haven’t said hello for a while. I’m excited about the roll out (finally) of the GSV connection. Great offer - I’ve ordered the MB14 video tonight, and will be most interested to know when this ACTUALLY rolls out, considering they’ve announced dates a couple times which were not met. Are there any working samples of the [Google Street View] to [Matterport] engagement available to actually see? Interesting the little caveat about not all normal features of MP working in the GSV system. Would be great to know WHICH features won’t work. Any hints? We don’t want to promise what can’t be delivered, after all. Thanks again for your dedication to pushing the MP envelope. Great work. I hope you get a few hours of sleep now and then. Best to you. Matterport is the BEST way to show an interactive tour on a client's website, while Google Street View tours are a great way to enhance a client's Google Maps and Google Local listings. Matterport technology has always been years ahead of Google and other tour providers. The key differentiator has been combining a true 3D space with traditional panoramas. As placement takes place in a fully computed 3D world, Matterport is able to simulate distance as well as respect natural barriers such as walls and doorways. With the Pro-1 camera, image quality was noticeably lower than DSLRs and many competitor cameras. With the Pro-2 camera, image quality is often comparable to DSLR quality -- especially those who do not take advantage of proper HDR DSLR photo editing. -- At the 2017 GSV Summit, Google announced a forthcoming 'Street View VR-Ready' platform that listed Matterport and NCTech as participants. While details are scarce, this program looks to use 3D data in the same manner that Matterport uses it in order to provide a more natural experience where the user would be exploring a 3D space with panoramas mapped around the viewer's current position. If anything, this would be Google taking a page from Matterport. I imagine that Google would like to replicate the Matterport Experience. When they do, Matterport will be one of the premiere gateways to this world as it is the only commercially available tool to generate compatible content. NCTech's device is forthcoming. -- Should you sell Google Street View? Absolutely. Sell both a Matterport tour and a Google Street View tour as a secondary added value offering. |

Hey guys, I see GSV as a great ice breaker for smaller businesses. Especially boutique shops close together in a downtown setting. Being able to say “Google Street View, but inside your store” and the person knows instantly what you mean is a much smoother inroad than just walking in and saying “Yo! Want me to scan your place and make you a Matterport 3D Space?” (a la Rocky Balboa). I really think GSV is going to help us break down the communication barrier that exists between MSPs and new clients! Merry Christmas! God Bless, Chris |
