Hi All,

I scanned a home furnishing showroom today (10 April 2017).

1. Why did I scan with the camera at three camera levels?
2. Why did I create three floors on the Matterport Capture app (when there was really just one floor)?
3. What happens when you create three floors while scanning when there is really only one floor?
4. Did I need to trim each "floor" separately?

I will post the mini-maps from the Matterport Camera app – and the Matterport Spaces 3D Tour on or after 1 May 2017.

Okay, ready, go! Your answers please.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,

You said that you scanned a home furnishing showroom that has one single floor but you did it creating three floors? And each floor corresponds to a different camera level? (I am not sure if I understand this last one...you put the camera at, let´s say, 2 feet from the floor, 6 feet and 12 feet or something like that?

I will try to answer:

1) You put the camera at three different camera levels because you wanted to have three separate perspectives of the same floor?

2) You wanted to have the three perspectives in different floors to give the visitors the opportunity to apreciate these three different "worlds" (perhaps the floors deserved a detailed view and the same goes to the chandelliers?)

3) I believe that nothing happens because the camera thinks that it is a new space (a new floor) so there should not be any interference with the previous spots

4) My guess is that you will need to trim each floor

Regards.

George

I'm going to guess that there were either

1. 3 different lighting conditions
2. 3 different times of day
3. 3 different furniture arrangements
4. 3 different clients with different needs
5. they painted the walls a different color each time
6. a combination of the above
7. i think you would have to trim all

Perhaps you had 3 different types of furnishings to show, each best showcased at a different perspective/height.

For example:

1)Sofas
2)Tables
3)Wall Art

You now not only have the best perspective to view these items in detail, avoid the disorientation of jumping from one camera height to the next consecutively... but you have each separated into their own category/department.

Not sure/interested to know what occurs. I have tried to differentiate a 2nd floor on an out building- studio above a garage. My final tour came back with it included with second floor of house.

Separate trims for each camera height/floor.

If the furnishing is important you'll want to scan it from all angles to get the most data, hence the best scan result. You should be able to view the data from the bottom of the tabletop if you scan below it. Same should apply for the top of large cabinets.

Everytime you create a new floor, you'll have an empty canvas to make sure you've scanned everything on the new level.

You should be able to create a good looking floorplan if you combine the three. Top of cabinets wont be black for example.

Hi Dan, my initial guess was you wanted to get the different perspectives, maybe down low to make the showroom look larger or something like that? or maybe parts of the showroom were quite small spaces?

1. Tours will be viewed in VR and you are accommodating for viewer perspective options (taking into consideration special needs and children).

(See also: Request for Matterport Pro "no later than April 10th" for Furniture Showroom" )

2. Each floor would represent a different scan height (or viewer perspective).

3. There is matching scan data (which would be needed even if there were actually three floors) so you get three viewing perspective options without having to load a new model for each. (Bonus: Client can choose their preferred level and you can disable the rest for desktop viewing)

4. Each floor generates a new map when you start (even though it is referencing a previously scanned floor for relative positioning) so, yes, you needed to trim each floor separately.
