Matterport announced an upcoming API and Software Development Kit (SDK) in this National Association of Realtors A Look Ahead podcast with Matterport VP, Sales and Business Development Jeff Harris today (7 April 2015) [at 15:05] Matterport will release an API and SDK to enable developers to leverage the Matterport platform, such as changing the way the Matterport 3D Showcase video player functions and doing different things with the data or create different kinds of models. Plus, Matterport will be adding "easy syndication" service. What features would you like included in the API sets? Or, other thoughts about the API or SDK? Dan |

I would like to see the 3D Workshop-->API include at least these new fields for seamless integration into a Content Management System (CMS) such as WP3D Model that we use for our Gallery created by Forum member @rpetersn). 1. Name of Client tag (different from the title and sub-title) 2. Name of Category tag 3. Street Address (just like YouTube does it) 4. Set Due North 5. Waypoint tags 6. "Powered by [Photographer]" 7. Social sharing icons for 3D Showcase (check box to activate display) 8. Public, Private, Unlisted (just like YouTube does it) 9. Client website: 10. Photographer's website: 11. keywords to describe 3D Showcase (SEO) 12. Client Contact Us: email address 13. Photographer Contact Us: email address More fields you would like in the 3D Workshop that are included in the API? Dan |

@SummerMayhugh "Get this" mean the API and SDK or the CMS? Matterport has not announced the date for the release of their API and SDK. The CMS we use is available from @rpetersn 15 May 2015. Dan |

Inspired by this Realtor.com thread discussion with @DavidH, @LeeBlackston and @JonModene Matterport to get Realtor.com to include 3D Tour at non-premium pricing as Zillow and Trulia does. Enabled both for API and pasting individual link. Dan |

If the API includes compass degree setting, then when viewed in VR, seems like the user could know which way is North.

Looking forward to the API to integrate with our CMS. We created custom themed viewers to display additional information along with our 3D models. Sample |

AR/VR developer here. I'm not if this fits with the MP business model, but as a start, being able to pull all data (panos, each pano center point, mesh at that point) out to create a new experience or interactions within Unity. Some things I can think about doing are changing paint colors on walls, adding / rearranging furniture, adding pop up videos, being able to experience time lapse sunsets, hearing audio as you walk into a room, adding atmospheric sounds, adding annotations, scripting the motion through the space. On the AR side, the possibilities may be available with existing obj outputs. I think the mesh data might help in aligning a point cloud with tracking provided by Vuforia or Metaio. The mesh could take the M out of SLAM (simultaneous location and mapping). Not sure at all how this would work with the existing SDKs, though This could enable you to walk through a space with a Gear VR in pass-through mode (the video camera is on) that precisely overlays information as you walk through. Like the location of plumbing or wires in the walls, or in a museum, an X-Ray view of other rooms... ie, you can see what direction other exhibits are just by looking around, Yelp app style, but more detailed. Lots of brainstorming |

Today (3 June 2015), I sent Matterport these additional API "wish list" items based on the additional input of @CKC and AR/VR developer @Foundry45 --- 1. pull all data (panos, each pano center point, mesh at that point) —> new experience or interactions within Unity 2. changing paint colors 3. adding / rearranging furniture 4. adding pop-up videos 5. experience time-laps sunsets 6. hearing audio as you walk into a room 7. adding atmospheric sounds 8. adding annotations, scription the motion through the space 9. mesh data might help in aligning a point colud with 10. tracking provided by Vuforia or Metaio 11. The mesh could take the M out of SLAM (simultaneous location and mapping) 12. Walk through a space in pass-through mode (the video camera is on) that precisely overlays information as you walk through. (Such as in a museum, an X-ray view of other rooms (ie. you can see what direction other exhibits are in just by looking around (Yelp app style, but more detailed) 13. international language support. --- If you have addition "wish list" ideas for the API -- especially for virtual reality -- please post to this thread. I will aggregate and email to Matterport. Thanks, Dan |

I've been waiting for this for nearly 9 months now, I can't tell you how exciting this will be for all my clients who say "Can we add 'x' into the showcase?". I would simply like to see all the operators they can realistically produce and then see what is possible, but here are some more general ideas of what I want to develop with Matterport: - Current position; users can have a minimap - Current position of cross-hair; can be used to generate heatmaps of most viewed areas - Clickable 3D points; open up iframes and HTML content when a point is clicked - Destinations; draw directions and help users find specific areas of the showcase - 3D presentation tool; create a prezi style presentation using the showcase points and camera angles as slides (similar to Cl3ver but with the HDR photos as well) |

@al9901 Seems like with the API, a floor planning service could create interactive floor plans. For example, click on any point in the floor plan and see a still photo. This way, you could have your choice of flying into the Matterport 3D Showcase or looking at a still picture. Would this feature be doable and useful? Dan |

Add to that replacing 360 photos with your own stitched photos. One or two avid amateur photographers thought the HDR photos were lacking. If you could take the photos with an SLR, with the features of MP, it would be miles ahead of any other tour technology.
