Scans Appearing in Wrong Places2146

BayAreaAdam private msg quote post Address this user
A strange one today:

I was 90% finished in a house with 2 small bedrooms to go. Everything had been fine to this point. Suddenly, my scans would align but not appear where I had placed the camera (at first, I was unaware that they appeared at all).

After turning the camera and iPad off and on, retrying to scan etc., I noticed that the scans were appearing in a completely different part of the house that I had shot about an hour earlier. The model looked like a mess! I had to find all the misplaced scans, erase them, and try again.

Eventually, I got it all covered. (I think.) Anyone have this happen before?

Yes, it's common if the space looks the same throughout, is empty, or outside. That's why it's good to pay attention of where the scans land on the capture app mini map.
Sunlight and mirrors can also help cause this glitch in misalignments.
It happens because the scan can't align enough points to the previous scan so it places it where it matches some points.

Carlos.

@CarlosFHdz I see, thanks. The only possible issue today was small mirror. Wouldn't think that would cause all the chaos...

Even the leveling of the camera can throw off the alignment.
From my experience, Matterport has made changes to their software to make alignments easier with less information. This helps go farther distances without issues, but also results in the problem you experienced.

I have experienced the same on previous scans, especially with sunlight interfering with the camera's infrared sensing.

I just keep a watch on where it place a scan and if wrong delete immediately, move camera closer to previous successful scan and try again.
