I have a ton of respect for Nathan. His videos have helped so many real estate photographers, myself included. However, I think he should have collaborated with someone who has more matterport experience for this video.

I think he should have made it more clear but I think what he is trying to say is "turn-key solution", so he means no post work at all. That means that basic tasks like hiding navigation spots (what he calls hotspots) should be taken into account (according to his standards).

He is trying to say "If I pay this much money why should I do anything except press a button?". That is why he has no respect for Matterport.

You have to remeber that he sells his photographic and editing techniques so the only reason he would support any "turn-key solution" is because you don't need Nathan's techniques.

My opinion is that to use any tool you have to know what it can't do before you can master it. Just because you buy a hammer, doesn't mean you are instantly transformed into a carpenter! The same goes with Matterport.

Some thoughts i left in the comment on the youtube video... The pro3 has 3D lidar.. the planix R1 has 2d lidar.

Matterport charges extra for floorplans but their cost to deliver 1 tour with a floorplan can often be less than the cost of iguide that includes the floorplan.

with iguide your limited to their 1 floorplan. With matterport you can get a floorplan from 3rd party vendors than include 3D floorplans, dollhouse floorplans, and staged floorplans.

With the pro3, you can scan up to 155' between hotspots (I've tested it and made a video about it).. you can't do that with iguide. in iGuide tours you can hide scanpoints and have less scans on a tour but its not the same viewing experience as a matterport pro3 tour. the ideal scan point placement for matterport is every 5-7 feet.

what setting on the r1 were you using to capture? default settings on both will show favorable image quality to the pro3 than the r1, less of that "hdr" look on the pro3.

in your video the matterport floorplan isn't a dollhouse type view, its a floorplan just like it is on iguide

at 10:28 mark, you need to double click on the floorplan to be brought there, not a single click.

at 10:50, the "junk" is the second floor

The cloud pano tour is a lot darker and the window pulls aren't what they are on the pro3. Cloud Pano can be a lot to set up... time consuming. and you have to know how to edit your own panos, or pay an editor, then pay for the cloudpano software, then pay for a floorplan if you wanted to offer that.. its definitely not turnkey.

iGuides instant doesn't include fixtures like toilets, cabinets, etc. its limit of 75 scans or panos not rooms.

The standard package also doesn't include fixtures.

when you're scanning larger spaces the Pro3 can't be beat. You'll pay a lot more in processing fees to iguide than you would for Matterport.

With matterport you have access to the original scan data, you can back it up and archive it on your local computer. You can archive processed tours within the matterport website as well.

With the pro3 I've scanned a 2500 sq ft house in 30-45 min. with the iguide its been about the same. you only save time on the areas where you don't need line of sight like bedrooms/living rooms, etc.

if we are being totally honest, the iguide is just a floorplan with clickable hotspots.

cubicasa doesn't support 360 panos yet, so their floorplan with clickable hotspots are just regular photos.

Zillow showcase is as if cubicasa and cloudpano had an ugly child.

regarding accuracy... iGuide is ansi certified... so is cubicasa so from a fannie mae, appraisal, good for public record standpoint both will work. Matterport hasn't said they are ansi certified.

@scanyourspace I think your comment was deleted, alas. Good comment, though.

I noticed the Matterport example Nathan showed had 2x or 3x the number of scan points of a typical project this size. Did he pick a space that was overscanned in order to make his point that navigation takes too much clicking? Or is he just oblivious as to how to use Matterport?

@Fathom3D I see the comment is still on the youtube video
I wouldn't call him oblivious.. but there are efficient ways to scan and they differ between Matterport and iGuide. what you do for one is not what you'd do for the other. I noticed his iguide example had a lot fewer scans that i'd typically do.
