Pretty much for a year I have been offering all my new clients and existing clients to open their own Matterport account as an alternative of hosting it on my account. And you know what, they'd rather pay me more than pay less to Matterport directly. The reasons I started doing it are a)hard to chaise every client to pay for their hosting. None of them seem to be trying to get away but it is always "sorry I am bit busy but I will sort it out by the end of the week", then they simply forgetting to sort it out and I have to remind them again. After 2-3 reminders and I honestly say I cannot host it for free and if we cannot sort it out I have to disable them. Then usually they either pay hosting or ask to disable the tour just to come back in a few weeks asking to enable it after they pay b) Running a business alone makes me thinking that if something happens to me all of them are going to loose all their tours. And I simply cannot quit for better opportunities because a lot of clients depend on me staying in business all the time they need their tours for. c) the more you host the more you pay for subscription to Matterport and it becomes a bigger recurring expense for me. But it seems b reason still is not good enough. I was referred recently to another venue business by a company I have done a few 3D tours for. I offered my current client to self host as an option but they paid me my hosting fee. So when I talked to a new business manager I also mentioned they can self host it for less. I mentioned that the company who recommended me to them have chosen to host with me but you as anew client can choose to self host. I wrote them an email showing difference in hosting cost. Today one of their bosses called me to confirm what's the difference in self hosting and hosting with me and I explained it is just cheaper for you and I will still help them with anything related to their 3D tour. I also explained my "b" reason and he agreed with me that it is a big risk for them. 10 minutes later an email came to ask for days I am available to do their space confirming they will be paying hosting to me and are not interested in self host. And that's not a small 3D tour, even the part they have now can reach over 400 scans and when all renovation finished with extra scans it will go over 500 scans for sure. What is your situation? Are you happy to host your clients tours just because it is an extra income for us or you are also offering your clients to self host because it is just more secure for everybody? |

I have exactly the same problem and I think most users of companies like ours have a similar problem. That is why I am closing my clients' matterport accounts - matterport is an unfriendly solution for business, because I, as the producer of the walks, bear the risk of maintaining the projects and I am the one paying for it, whether my client pays me or not. I have stopped cozying up with them. I have raised the prices 10 times for matterport and hosting and offered 4 solutions to choose from: 1. They pay as much as I ask or the tours are disabled forever. 2. They set up a matterport account themselves and pay for it themselves, 3. After disabling it, we start the tour again using a more user-friendly technology: RealSee, which does not require subscriptions and is charged for the published 3D virtual tour (i.e. if the client pays, they have the tour, if they do not pay, it is disabled free of charge and I charge a fee for enabling it) 4. They order server files from me (cost $300 one-time), which they host themselves on their websites. |

I think for most of the businesses I have dealt with it is a case of reducing the number of people to talk to. Think about it, each new connection means more emails and or phone calls, all distracting them from what Matterport spaces were supposed to provide which was more time to spend on qualified leads. I have had a case where a client has wanted to move scans I host to another MSP but never to their own account. I think for those who are actually willing to pay for 3D walkthroughs, the difference in cost of paying an MSP or direct to Matterport is insignificant. If it saves time to talk with one MSP they will take that option. |

@Wingman MoonClerk is the platform WGAN uses to automatically charge monthly subscriptions. MoonClerk sits on top of Stripe. It's designed for non-coders to easily create various payment plan. If you charged monthly (or annual) support, hosting and maintenance - using a platform like this -- would that help? Happy holidays, Dan |

@DanSmigrod Thanks Dan, it comes to my mind from time to time to use these tools to simply setup requiring charges for every client and forget about it all. I have Square and Paypal that can do it. I bet I just like to create problems for myself complaining about it while it is actually a good solution. | ||

This is a subject that periodically haunts me like many MSPs. Dan, I'll look into MoonClerk. Never heard of this before but could be a nice solution if it's well-integrated. Reading all the comments in this thread, I concur that clients most likely prefer the SIMPLICITY of obtaining both scanning services and hosting from one source, even if it costs a touch more. People LOVE simplicity. I know my clients love that I provide so many media options, Matterport, HDR photography, videos, drone, floor plans, 3DVista, whatever they need a-la-carte. They call me, choose the services they want for each listing and it's all shot in one day from one provider. So why wouldn't it be the same for hosting. One provider, keep it simple. Time to check out MoonClerk! |
