One my largest clients received a Patent Infringement letter from Richard Wilson at Tour Technology Software. His verbiage is similar to past emails I've seen online. I know RealTour Vision settled with them instead of fighting but many others have simply ignored it. I know a few others have posted here with the same email (as well as numerous other forums and facebook groups), but I don't see any results from people fighting back, ignoring it, or even just paying the license fee. Most things online are from around 2019-2020, so I don't know if this guy is just ramping up again or what? My client is a large company and this time Richard emailed their CEO and President. My client is now asking for me support any claims I make that it's a scam or that they shouldn't be worried. I have no idea what to send them. I am making an appointment with a lawyer to get some advice. But has anyone else recently dealt with this guy? Here is the first part of his email to my client: I am writing to you today as CEO of Tour Technology Software, Inc. on account of your operation of a website(s) incorporating a 360 virtual tour using a geometric projection which keep straight lines straight during up- and down and left and right changes in the direction of virtual view. The technology is covered by United States Patent number 6,754,400 as affirmed and elaborated by EX Parte Re-Examination Certificate 9844 which is the culmination of Research effort conducted in the United States and Romania and originally funded by Richard Wilson Jr, The President Of TTS. We have filed numerous lawsuits in the United States against infringers of the technology. All these lawsuits have been successfully prosecuted as you can verify with a simple court search. License fees have ranged into six figures. You should also be aware that when The International Virtual Photographers Association challenged our Patent in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, The patentability of our technology, was confirmed with the Issuance of 68 claims. Currently, the technology is licensed by Tour Technology Software, Inc to many users, including virtually every major hotel in the United States, either directly or through their virtual tour provider. |

I literally would never read this email, it would be lost in the massive amout of spam I receice. Unless they are going to send cerified mail and post an ad in our local paper then I would not likely take notice. even then, being part of lawsuits where I’ve sued people the bottom line is, it’s on you to collect even if you get a judgement. Good luck with that one. People just refuse to pay in the end. You can wait for their estate years later, good luck with that one also. |

Interesting. A Google search of "Tour Technology Software, Inc." resulted in nothing but patent infringement lawsuit summaries. I am not an intellectual property nor patent attorney. But from past experience, it appears that the company referenced earlier in my response neither makes nor markets either a tangible product or service. My hunch is that they are rights holders to one or more patents, which some people describe as a "patent troll." A forum discussion on the International Virtual Reality Professionals Association discusses a lawsuit against a company by the name of Real Tour Vision. The matter may have been settled out of court. It is not clear if "Tour Technology Software, Inc." has pursued legal action against software developers only or if they have or may be filing lawsuits against digital twin professionals using equipment such as Matterport, Leica, or iGuide. If you have been contacted by "Tour Technology Software, Inc." threatening any legal action, it would be helpful to post your story here. |

@DanSmigrod Thanks. I've combed through all of those already, plus every other forum post around the web that I could find. Everything seems to be a few years old. I'm just seeing if there's anything more recent about this guy. | ||

@Jake the best thing is to have your client seek legal counsel for them to advise or to send your findings but be sure to include in the email "I'm not an attorney and not giving legal advise but just my observations" I have been doing all facets of webstuff for 30 years and "getty images extortion" was a thing and it took the world community to take them down but they spurred a bunch of fake little guys hoping their prey didnt know better. by the look on his GBP of his huge office I'd say he switches from this to sending domain renewal notices and inheritance money transfers but send your results with the "not legal advice" and let them take it from there. |
