Have any of you recently spoken to brands that are eager to adopt a strategy within the "metaverse"? While there are many metaverse-type companies attempting to be a solution.. at Openhaus, we believe Matterport is actually the best way for any brand to take baby steps into the metaverse. Here's why... 1. Cost: Most small to medium sized brands do not have a budget to fork out $50k - $200K to create artificially digitized or CGI rendered experiences for their brand. Luckily, Matterport scanning, hosting, and customization (through a channel partner) is only a fraction of the cost. 2. Time: In my experience, CGI and renderings usually take weeks to complete. Brand experiences through Matterport have a turnaround time of 24-48 hours. Ultra fast. 3. Commitment: The world is still in "discovery mode" when it comes to the metaverse. Nobody wants to completely dive head first into any given solution. But when you have a turn key solution like Matterport, your customers now have the perfect way to taste test an experience with their brand that is fast to implement, but won't break the bank. So what? If you have a Matterport camera, and use a "skin" product like Openhaus for tour customization and commerce, you have all the tools necessary to provide your customers with virtual brand experiences. Your cost = $500± Your profit = $1k - $20k https://openhaus.app/view/mwxdICo1Pmr/DShy813LAQH/ |

I do not think Matterport is good for any true 3D world as it is not 3D at all. Sure there is 3d data there but its quality won't let you convert it to anything useable without doing a lot of work. I think even Lidar built in Iphone/Ipad can do a much better 3D representation of any space/object, not to mention using photogrammetry. As for a cost for small business to built their space in 3D it can go down with some simple to use an app to design it for dummies. It is still just a shell of a business as they sell some products or services that somehow unique and cannot be made as 3D object with a simple app. Facebook imho is just living in their own dream world and they do not understand all these problems. |

@wingman, thanks for your thoughts! Out of curiosity, what capabilities do you think would need to be active inside of a Matterport space for it to be useable?

Are you thinking metaverse in a VR experience of as a 2D experience?

You can hover use it to collect some 3D data and then manually clean & fix it. Sure it is faster than doing it from a scratch but still should cost a few 1000s to build a clean 3D model with realistic textures from a Matterport tour and Matterpack. |
