We tested Z1 + BLK360, and found no benefit in combining the two onsite. Both produce the same resolution imagery though the Z1 has better light/colour management. The big problem is alignment. Z1 uses Cortex, BLK uses the point cloud, and we found they did not work well together at all. Pro2+BLK works well together but our rule of thumb is "BLK likes BLK, Pro2 likes Pro2 data" when figuring out how best to align them, generally you can switch in a well-defined area without issue. But we tried similar tactics with the Z1 and concluded it wasn't worth the time/risk. Good luck! |

@HomePlanNZ thanks for responding, idea of blk here is for the better 3D version and not for the images. Theta should do the job for images. With that, you have issues while capturing the space with this combination? even the close scan points wont do good? Again the objective is to get better 3D so, the scan points could be as close as possible? |

(Again in our experience), using the Z1 on a project will always degrade the 3D data compared to Pro2 and BLK. The Cortex process 'makes up' a 3D model based on imagery, which will always be inferior to laser (BLK) or infrared (Pro2) sensor data. If you then combine Z1+BLK, you are mixing bad with good = bad result. Issues were alignment both ways (Z1 scan, switch the BLK; BLK scan, switch to Z1). When changing devices we typically do about 5 scans with the first device to get good 3D data before switching - the devices just hated each other. We're talking about scans right on top of each other. Others may have had a better experience, but we discarded the Z1 from ours in favor of our Pro2(s)+BLK. |
