Video: Matterport Academy | All About Floors (Lesson 8) with Matterport Content Marketing Manager Amir Frank | Video courtesy of Matterport YouTube Channel (28 September 2017)

Hi All,

If you are just getting started with Matterport, here is Lesson 1 of 11 from the Matterport Academy: Introducing the Capture App (above) with Matterport Content Marketing Manager Amir Frank.

Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Amir from Matterport and today I want to talk about floors and stairs.

When you're scanning multiple levels, you have to specify which floor you're on in the Capture app. This serves two purposes. First, it helps you better position markings. Second, it clears out the mini-map so it's easier to tell what you're scanning on a floor-by-floor basis.

For simple two story homes, start by scanning the entire first floor. Scan up the stairs, being careful going two to three steps at a time.

Once you reach the top of the stairs create a new floor and continue scanning. The floors you designate in the Capture app are to help you scan. They may not directly correlate to floor levels in 3D Showcase once the space has been processed.

This is because our Vision Processing Pipeline uses advanced algorithms to determine floors for special cases. A common edge case is split level homes. While you may designate each landing as a new floor in the Capture app, when our pipeline processes the space it first combines all the scans into one 3D model.

From the complete model the Pipeline then determines how many floors there are and which scan belongs to which floor.
