Hi All, During today's (21 November 2019) Matterport Support Live, Marcus discussed using the "Matterport Sandwich" ... Here's the transcript from this portion of the call .. "... say you're scanning down a hallway and there's a door at the end of the hallway and you're making your way down. And as you're going down the hallway, you're scanning each room as you go. Say all of the other rooms adjacent to this hallway, to the left and to your right, the doors are wide open and you're scanning them as you progress down the hall. On the other end of the hall is a closed door and when you reach that door, you open it, scan the threshold, scan the room, and then continue on with the rest of your space. Well, the issue when processing that space is that door that remained closed through that entire scanning of the hallway and throughout the rest of that cadence up to that point, the door was closed, and then opened, and then scanned. If you were to process that, the closed door combines with the open door, in terms of the 3D mesh that's there. And it's a gigantic roll of the dice whether or not you may or may not be able to pass through that threshold of that door, due to the door being closed initially for so much of the approach to that particular door. So it's very, very important to open all doors that you plan to navigate through and leave them open prior to scanning, otherwise you may unintentionally block yourself from accessing certain rooms and certain areas. Now, there, if you do run into this problem, and you do have that error, and you keep slamming against this fake wall that's there, you may be able to see the issue that's there if you were to access your workshop POV and click on the mesh button in your workshop edit info. But there is a trick ["Matterport Sandwich"] that you can do also to alleviate it, if you happen to be stuck. And that's accomplished by placing two trim markings on either side of the door frame itself, with the arrows pointing inward at the mesh you've accidentally created. So if you were to get a model back that has that blockage in a door, in an accident, you know, it's common to be under pressure for time when you're in a space, and you may have accidentally forgotten to leave a door open or have a door stop with you or two, and you may have three, you know, three places to scan in a single day, you're in a rush. It's easy, sometimes it's very easy to forget. So if that happens to you when you get a space back, go back in your Capture app, place the two trim markings appropriately on either side of the door frame. What that will do, it will kill the mesh that's trapped in between the two trim markings. And then, re-upload the space and it should very well eliminate that mesh that's there. I hope all of that makes sense. We do have an article published about doors and doorways in general, but more often than not, it's such a common issue for first timers to run into because it's simply not thought of. But we do run into it a lot, customers run into it a lot, and hopefully those tips do help you in the future." |
