Video: Matterport Academy | Scanning Repetitive Spaces (Lesson 10) | Video courtesy of Matterport YouTube Channel Screen grab: Mataterport Marker (Target) for scanning large open spaces. | Screen Grab courtesy of Matterport Hi All, Have you successfully scanned a basketball court or large open space without using Matterport Markers (targets)? An Atlanta agency reached out to us about potentially scanning their client's basketball court. I have concerns about scanning this large open space – with a very shinny floor. Matterport recommends scanning empty and repetitive spaces by adding stuff to the space to help enable alignment (video above) and/or using Matterport Markers (targets). (I am reluctant to use them because I do not want the markers to show up in the space.) ✓ Scanning Empty & Repetitive Spaces As a "worse case" I am thinking about scanning the basketball court twice: 1. once with the targets (likely every 3-5 feet) [hide scans in Matterport Workshop] 2. then, once every 15 without the targets for the walk around experience Your thoughts? Best, Dan |

@DanSmigrod Maybe I just got lucky, but I did one not long ago and had no problems. Started in a corner and built an "L" shape along the edges and then expanded out. No problems at all. I'm wondering if the floor markings provide enough variation to allow good allignment? |

@DanSmigrod I've never scanned a Basketball court but I have done some open spaces and I try to scan very close to the walls to start with and get to the center of the room in a spiral way. |

@tresdepro That's awesome! Do you think the vanished, shinny floor will create a problem? Dan |

@DanSmigrod hard to say, I've never scanned a basketball court... another thing I'd try is to scan closer to the floor do not extend the tripod all the way just halfway might do the trick |

@tresdepro Yes. I've done that successfully when scanning close together has failed. I am anticipating that the varnish - shinny floors - may cause a challenge. I may need to do a test shoot first just to confirm that it is possible to shoot this space. Best, Dan |

@tresdepro This is best approach, but it will still be mighty challenge at center Court. I suggest put few different colored balls on the floor for ease of mapping. |
