Gear of the Week --- Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 4-Section Aluminum Tripod Hi All, If you are just getting started with a Matterport Pro2 3D Camera, among the first gear questions that you will have is, "Which tripod should I get and why?" Get the Manfrotto MT190XPRO4 4-Section Aluminum Tripod because: ✓ 4 sections folds up small enough to fit in carry-on luggage ✓ Sturdy enough for the weight of the Matterport Camera; light enough for constantly moving it ✓ easy "action" for extending and shorting ✓ under $200 from Amazon (Prime) Which tripod do you use and why? Here is the WGAN Amazon shopping list for Matterport Gear and accessories. (WGAN is an Amazon Affiliate.) Best, Dan |

Screen Grab from Amazon: Manfrotto MT190XPRO3 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod Hi All, If you are buying a tripod for a Matterport Pro2 3D Camera, you can save some money buying the 3-section version (rather than the 4-section one (in the original post above). That said, I prefer the 4-second because: ✓ it folds up small enough to fit in a roll board suitcase (traveling) ✓ it goes lower when you need the camera as close to the floor as possible If you do a ton of shoots on an ongoing basis, invest in the carbon version: otherwise, you can save some $$$$ buying the aluminum version. Reminder to buy a quick release plate (or leveler) and case. Which tripod do you use with a Matterport Pro2 3D Camera (and are you happy with it)? Dan |

I am using the same or it looks exactly like on your picture. It gets the job done but what I do not like in it that it has no legs locking. You pick it up with a Pro2 to move, accidently bump one leg into something, it goes a bit inward with the bump and it is not leveled anymore. You are lucky if you notice it and put the leg back but most of the time.. and unless it becomes a habit to check.. you start making unleveled scans. |

I am a new Matterport user and waiting for my camera to arrive. I purchased the 190 3 section on the recommendation from the rep from Matterport. I am very happy with the stand and construction. It is far superior than the stand for my DSLR. @wingman would you say this stand becomes unlevel after moving often? |

The legs tend to become loose over time (and move down/inward due to gravity) when you move it. You can tighten carefully to fight this. IMO- a dolly is the way to go, faster scans and no more leg movement.

Good call. I picked up a dolly on recommendation for handling higher sq ft jobs. Great dolly for a great price.

Quote:Originally Posted by BenAdgie No, that's not about loose legs. When you are in a small space and you move the tripod to a new spot you can hit something(furniture/wall) with one leg, the leg is pushed inward changing its leveling. I have a cheap tripod where legs can be locked from any movement and I have seen pro ones with a lock as well. This one only has locking that prevents legs from moving outwards but nothing stopping them to go towards the centre with a bit of a push. |

Don't you initially level the tripod with the legs all the way o-u-t?

Manfrotto 190s and 290s. Pretty happy. They are pretty sturdy and you can get parts if needed.

This Manfrotto 190 4-section tripod (subject of the post) is the only one I use. I now own several of them, sometimes used with the Neewer tripod dolly. Both of these were recommended some time back by Dan and furthered my view that when Dan recommends something, I should check it out. Either that, or one guy in Atlanta and another in LA, who have never met except over WGAN screens, just happen to have the same taste in equipment! |
