Hi All,

The WGAN Forum Question of the Day for Thursday, 18 April 2019.

Do you charge extra "per additional floor" for Matterport?

This question was inspired by this Matterport Service Provider. (Please see screen grab below.)

It's an interesting pricing strategy by getting the price per square foot down low, but still adding an up-charge for doing stairs.

I have looked at many Matterport Service Provider rate cards and this is the first time that I have seen this up-charge.

Your thoughts?

Best,

Dan

Interesting concept
Not sure it would work with my client base.

Hmmm. Is that a flat rate to scan a second floor? Or, as I assume, an add-on to bring the camera to the second floor and charge the stated $0.10/square foot?

@osakadave

It's an Add On to the basic rate of $0.10 SQ FT.

Well, if it works for that provider, good for them! I just scanned a four story home yesterday and it would have been a tough sell had I applied this formula. I guess we all find what we need to find and what works for us...it is not a one size fits all apparently.

Maybe I’m the odd duck, but I bid each job individually. I offer so many services, MP, GeoCV, NodalView, Zillow 3D Home, HDR photography, aerial drone photos and video, Zillow video, professional video, websites... and every agent has their favorite combo. So I just ask what services they want and the square footage. Once I know what they want, I can make a quick mental calculation as to the hours on site (sometimes days) and the hours at the computer (or days if professional video is involved) and give them a price.

I know the quality of my work and what’s fair for my time. If an agent’s only question is about price then they’re looking for “somebody with a camera” not a talented photographer. I encourage them to try it. Usually they come back next time.

I wonder if the same agent pitches themselves as “List with me. I have a RE license!” Never yet heard of anyone needing heart surgery looking for “somebody cheap with a scalpel.”

I refuse to compete on price with photographers who won’t compete with me on quality.
