How to price long distance scans in rural areas9091

litespeed74 private msg quote post Address this user
Hi there,
1st time posting here and was hoping for some ideas or tips on how to charge for service to areas that are hours away in rural areas.
For example, I might have up to 10 different jobs all in different areas averaging anywhere from 3-7 hours away by car.
I have a pretty basic flat price by sq. foot for the scan and showcase...any advice on how to factor in travel costs?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome to the WGAN Forum.

1. 2019 IRS Mileage Rate is $0.58 ... That's what the IRS considers what it costs for you to drive your car.
2. Sub-contract the scan to a Matterport Pro that is closer. Find a Matterport Pro

Best,

Dan

I agree with Dan...We charge $.60 per mile past a 25 mile radius. We typically travel up to about 70 miles from our base. Past that, we would look for other MP professionals.

Dan has a referral network.. let him know what you need and where and he can refer you.

@litespeed74,

If it were me, I would have to ask myself whether or not it makes sense for my business to take jobs that were 3-7 hours a way. Could I be more productive with my time? Could I spend the time to generate more business in my local area? Is this a scalable or sustainable approach for the vision I have for my business? Could I develop additional skills that would make me more marketable in my local area?

To answer your question, determine what your time is worth and add an additional fee for wear and tear on your vehicle.

I agree. 3-7 hours is a very long drive and considering that you will need to come back that turns into 6-14 hours of driving only.

I would go for 3 hours one way especially how far from me a great holiday place(Sunshine Coast) with a lot of private holiday accomodations, resorts and hotels but 7 hours one way ... it should be some really huge space for me to agree to drive that much.

We charge $2 AUD(about US$1.5) per kilometer outside of metro area but this is one way charging only.

Seems bigger that you charge in USA but keep in mind my petrol costs me AUD $1.6-1.7 per liter and I am sure your prices are lower. But we also give 10% discount from scanning rates and we do not charge any travel expenses if a business or a property located within our postcode.
