There are a handful of us. Agent commissions are much less than the US at ~1%. They like the idea of matterport but aren't interested in doubling their marketing cost per property.

Thanks guys Yes there are others, to my knowledge there's are at least two others who have a camera. One in London and the other in the Midlands. There may be others as MP doesn't disclose these and they're not active on the forum. As George stated the current real estate market is a no go as commissions in the UK are so low they have very little money to market a property. For most people shooting VT it's a side business as the willingness of customers to open their wallets and pay for a VT just isn't a priority for most people or companies. |

Munkee, As I've said many times before on this forum that the streets are not paved with gold in the UK and you like many others here in the UK are finding this out. The UK is one of the most difficult markets and for most MP is a hobby or a sideline to their business who occasionally pickup work. As you have read from the forum the most lucrative is real estate and many MP'ers in the States have done well for them selves as the typical commission rate for selling a house is 6% or more. Here in the UK it's 1% so no estate agent is going spend anything additional to move a property. Many estate agencies have tie in deals with snappers who charge a flat rate which includes the floorplan and high quality pic's. These are the hard facts in the UK and there is no easy answer in generating business. |

There's more than you think, I know of a handful in London, one in Brighton, yourself Gary and Munkee up in manchester. I've also seen a couple of people advertising the service before being in receipt of their camera. We actually have two units here ourselves. I'm the in-house creative at a forward thinking estate agent based down in Surrey. Basically, I'm a professional photographer who's taken up residence here! I understand it's difficult to sell matterport to agents. Most are notoriously tight with their outgoings. I wasn't aware that the US tend to take 6% or so as a commission. Generally, high street places around this are charge 1-2.5%, with the higher rate being quoted by the agents who regard themselves as premium. Hamptons, Fine and Country etc. Being in-house, we have the freedom to offer products like this when we feel a home might benefit. With the aim of attaining the higher end of a guide price, or encourage further viewing. It's also very useful for foreign investors, who perhaps need to be conservative with their time when in the country to view. We're finding that it's just a useful tool to have in the belt to get those instructions that might otherwise be missed. So far i've only had one customer who wasn't that impressed. Turns out, the PC he was running it on was beyond help. When shown it on mobile devices he became a fan. |

Hello there, A guy called Anwar, username Scantool on this forum operates out of Brighton as far as I know. I'm based at Reigate myself. The company I work and shoot for have offices from Croydon down to Haywards Heath and are opening one in Brighton this year if all goes to plan. Hope that helps. |

Jumping on this thread, we´re in London, Norway and South Africa. I´ve already connected with @GarySnyder, but it´s good to know there are more users in case we need a back-up or just to free up some time with jobs outside of London. |

Also, based on how tough the market is, I would strongly advice anyone that thinks they should get a camera and jobs will come pouring in to talk to any of the users operating in the UK. PM me if any of you give up and wants to sell your camera |

My biggest concern so far is that UK users have already started the race to the bottom. Im a professional photographer and Cinematographer and with over 3 decades experience Iv'e witnessed this all too many times when amazing and easy to use technology comes in to the market place and is made available at an affordable price the battle is on and the price wars start.Just because Matterport have made this easy to use it doesn't mean its not a premium product. Im charging premium prices now and marketing it as a premium product. Im staying far away from the American model and keeping this product for clients that recognise the benefits and want to pay a premium price for it. There is a small window of opportunity to charge what this product is worth whilst the number of users remains low in the UK. Look for premium clients and charge premium prices. Don't tell your customers how easy it is show them how amazing it is. Don't give them a demo of the product isn use that just devalues the service if they think its easy enough to do them selves. Running a matterport business is the same as any other business. Go after cheap clients and you'll get all the cheap head aches that come with them. Market your self properly and don't screw the marketplace up for those of us that can still make a decent living out of this whilst the window still exists.

Agree 100% @jnash70 - I`ve been in property marketing for the last 8 years, and have seen photographers offering unlimited photos and floorplans for 50 quid. That part of the market is so saturated that it makes no sense trying to compete with independent photographers. Whether or not the MP market takes the same turn, I guess we´ll have to take that matter in to our hands. (so punny). I´ve also had a couple of clients that have been approached by other Matterport service providers offering prices 50 % below ours. Obviously annoying, but what I´ve found so far is that relationships are stronger than price competition. It´s a major concern that unproffesionalised (for lack of better words) people are offering these services without having a well thought through pricing structure and approach to the market. |

I'd love to stay and chat longer but I'm prepping for tomorrows flight which involves me flying to the Caribbean. Im flying out business class being accommodated and looked after by the client and I'm charging almost 1.5 times the cost of the camera for 1 job. My scans will not be any better than anyone else's here. A monkey could do the job but the client see's my product of great value and is prepared to pay for it. PLEASE DON'T UNDERSELL YOURSELVES GUYS. IF YOU CAN'T MAKE MONEY BY CHARGING PREMIUM RATES THEN YOUR DOING SOMETHING WRONG.IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP YOUR CAMERA AND CONTRACT SELL IT TO ME - I'M ABOUT TO ORDER ANOTHER BECAUSE BUSINESS IS GOOD !! |
