Silly question... Is the snapshot image quality for Matterport the same whether in 3D or 360 mode (e.g., both shoot in high dynamic range, same resolution, etc.), or does one out perform the other? |

@Queen_City_3D One of my big clients claims that 2D snapshots taken from 360 images are of better quality than those taken from 3D mode scans. I think it's plausible. Why don't we all give it a comparison and report back! Keith |

@Chemistrydoc I'll try to remember to test and compare tomorrow! For our purposes, 360s are usually only used outside and the lighting is obviously different. Doing a 3D scan and 360 scan in the same spot inside would be a worthwhile experiment.

@Queen_City_3D This client does their own model editing. My instructions include shooting 360s in corners of each room, which indicates to me that not only the perspective, but the quality of the scan itself leads to better photographs. I can't imagine that it's a huge effect, but who knows? Keith |

Quote:Originally Posted by Chemistrydoc The images shot must be just the same in either scan mode or 360 image mode. The quality might differ as a matter of color balance/correction across the space - which need not be applied to stand alone 360 image mode. Resolution wise both must be just the same. |

@Queen_City_3D Both are of the same quality. Post production will vary.

360s and 3D images are the exact same thing. 360s even capture 3D data that isn't used. Same thing. |
