Purchase of Matterport Pro2 camera vs Pro2Lite8446

Wonderdawg private msg quote post Address this user
I've been mulling over the purchase of the Matterport Pro2 camera vs the Pro2Lite especially with the $200 discount (EXPIRES DEC 31st, 2018)
I've been very satisfied with the original Matterport and was only interested when a third party was offering jobs only if I used a Pro2 camera.
After a bit of research, it comes down to the math.
I have the $99 plan which offers 7 free scans per month.
So if the ProLite costs an addl $29 per scan ($58 for 101 and larger) at seven scans per month, I would incur an additional $203 per month.
Over a year period, using the Pro2Lite would cost me an addl $2520.
So the math looks like this -
Pro2 @$3395
Pro2Lite @ $2495 - add $2520 - net cost - $5015
Thus there's a penalty of $1620.
I doubt if a collaborator would desire someone to use a Pro2Lite on their account at the $29 scan price.
So I figure at 5 to 7 low end jobs, I can get the Pro2 paid off quickly.
There may be some upside in marketing of a Pro2 camera over other providers.
As a architectural photographer, I'm not sure of the quality of the stills, so that remains to be seen.
Also keep in mind, the $200 offer expires TODAY December 31.
There is a FED ex charge ($55 for me); the cameras are in stock and there is a 30 day return policy. So if January rolls around, and there's another promotion, I'm told that I would keep the camera and my account plan would receive a credit.
Hope this helps! Happy scanning and I'm wishing you all the profitable* work you can handle for 2019!

*don't give away your work*

Bingo. Pro-2 Lite is a terrible deal if you do the math And it looks kinda silly.

I think they wanted to hit a certain price point as a marketing stint.

Yep! “Oh it’s just $10 more per scan.” Factor in the credits and the math is like... Rent to Own pricing.
