Hi All,

Here is the Question of the Day for Wednesday, 12 December 2018:

Should Matterport Offer a Matterport Camera Trade-in Program?

Happy holidays,

Dan

P.S. This Question of the Day was inspired by this WGAN Forum discussion:

What's my Matterport camera worth? started by @KenBanks today ...

I don't think it would be feasible for them. If MP is preparing new camera, it most probably will be redesigned and therefore there will be no use of the old one.

I think the smarter move for Matterport is to reduce the price of the camera overall, thereby encouraging people to upgrade. I don't have a trade-in option for my Nikon, but I'm constantly watching for new cameras because they are necessary for my job, and the value of the new equipment is easy to recoup with jobs. The ROI on Matterport Cameras has dropped significantly in the last year, yet their pricing does not reflect that. I think they will find slow adoption of any new camera unless it comes in at a "reasonable" price point that can be recouped in a short amount of time.
