Hey guys Maybe I searched with the the wrong tags: We’re digging on a client: It’s a big real estate company, mainly letting office spaces. They want to have their facilities scanned before done so, so they can document the way everything has to be reestablished when moving out - say like 15 years later. Same for e.g. electrical wires poured into concrete: We’re talking about long term documentation. And when evaluating a system they don’t want to count on e. g. mattport still being there, the need to access archived files independently. Obj files might be spelled as a steady value. But I’ve been looking for hours to find an simple free viewer that - topped - even maybe allows a walkthrough. Any clou how to meet these needs? Thanks, Thomas |

Why not use the 3D Showcase app

Presently the only way to save and view Matterport spaces offline is with their showcase app. It is my understanding that they have no intention of releasing an alternative stand-alone player for spaces, so, unfortunately, that means when/if matterport goes away, so likely will our virtual tours except those that are loaded on the showcase app. The OBJ point cloud files are not really an image detailed tour for what you would likely need.

I think the best way to document something long term for that type of project is through 360 photos. All “tours” that are online are “hosted” and that’s where the risk is for long term availability for your specific client. 360 photos can be handled by many applications, saved long term, and they’ll own them, so it’s up to them to keep offline. My 2 cents. |
