Would anybody care to take the time to explain the value of Leica use and its marriage with Matterport? | ||

@OpenHouseOptics Great question. The BLK 360 is a very expensive device that is harder to get a return on than a Matterport Camera for most people. Here's a scan that I did last week. Impossible with Matterport: View Tour Full Screen w/MPEmbed This tour was $240. I was asked to scan this as a walkable tour with the Pro-2 ... don't even ask why, it's too complicated. I was prohibited from using the BLK 360 due to cost / pricing / the vendor not offering BLK 360 scans. So ... I rented the BLK 360 for $120 and did this for $120. There were some complications due to the length of time it took and I showed up and there was already someone there doing a 3D Lidar scan with surveying equipment!!!!!! I had to wait 2 hours while their equipment kept failing before I could do this -- twilight zone day! I had a scan later that day that I sent another team member on. The opportunity cost for doing this was exactly $120. So basically, I made $0 but got a cool scan to share. -- I am super excited about what the BLK 360 can do and am still in the process of figuring out how to tap into the market that would pay for it. The BLK 360 can be a secret weapon. It can be something that makes a specific type of scan POSSIBLE whereas without it, you're stuck. Outside? BLK can. Massive industrial area? BLK can. The question is, can you get those jobs? I'm working on it! |

We had the local dealer of Leica come in and have a chat with us yesterday morning. He brought in the camera and we did a couple of scans in our office on a med setting. I was sooo excited this option could work for so many of our jobs that I previously thought we were unable to do on the MP platform. I uploaded the scan and to be honest I'm a wee bit disappointed by the quality but without having the opportunity to have more of a play and do some testing its hard to know. It's results outside clearly speak for themselves though and that is really exciting. It did surprise me how much longer scans take though so you certainly need to add that into your pricing structure. As a rental option this could certainly work for us but to buy one in NZ dollars for the whole kit including the tripod (which may I add is super super cool!), batteries etc is over $30,000 so clearly not an option for a small company like ours! I have popped the raw scan below - this was literally 2 scans with no editing etc. |

@Metroplex360 @DanSmigrod Would you be able to scan an exterior with this then when moving inside be able to swap to your MP camera? This would increase speed etc |

@Property3dNZ Yes. You can switch between the Leica Geosystems BLK360 and Matterport Camera at anytime while within the same scan. Use BLK360 for ✓ Outdoors ✓ Height (for dollhouse) ✓ Better point cloud and mesh (for AEC clients) Use Matterport for: ✓ Indoors ✓ Normal height ceilings ✓ Speed of scanning Dan |
