I'm confused on how this will benefit all the MSPs like myself. If someone could clarify, I would appreciate it.

@rzphotoman - I know some times I am feel like I am fighting an uphill battle. I believe what we can offer that Multivista cannot, is the ability to go after small scale business. I am sure many small businesses would live Multivista services, but due to price they cannot afford it.

@MarkCantu I thought of that also, but I'm still wondering how the partnership between Matterport and Multivista help us. Or is this something just where Matterport sells them Pro2 cameras and cutting us out of the loop.

@rzphotoman, I think there is plenty of business out there. Contrary to movie wonderland, most architect offices run on shoestring budgets, and it wouldn't be in their best interest to hire a person and to do Matterport. Even with the basic plan, we are tied into Matterport for $600 a year.

Guys, I love the BLK360, but my thoughts are that the Pro-3 will go head to head. Intel's new IR sensors are affordable and can go outside. Lessons learned from BLK integration and the BLK itself will contribute to the PRO3. The BLK has internal hardware that tracks your movement from scan to scan to enhance alignment. The BLK stores scans onboard and then transfers -- Matterport could easily do this to allow tours to be reassembled from multiple cameras on a future version of Capture ... and I believe that now with the BLK Integration, we'll see development of tools in Capture to better help us work with outside scans in preparation for the Pro-3. I'm seeing quite a lot of potential for a PRO-3 ... and I think that for many of us, the Pro-3 would take care of what we need! -- Just a note -- I have absolutely no knowledge of a Pro-3; there's nothing hidden in code, no conversations about new camera development, etc. I just received a new Pro-2 in the mail yesterday - so I'm certainly not holding out for it any time soon! |

@Metroplex360 Super-unlikely there will be a higher-end scanner from Matterport: loser-end yes. Much more likely: more strategic alliances with higher-end scanners such as the arrangement with the BLK360. Dan Dan |

Quote:Originally Posted by DanSmigrod That's not really what I said. Super likely that Matterport will iterate and continue to develop low cost IR-based scanners using the new technology that Intel is leading with right now (and has on back order). With the 'Pro-3', one would be able to scan outside and continue scanning at outrageously fast speeds. I believe that the D435 has a wider fov than other sensors which would possibly reduce the number of stops on rotation (I haven't studied it) resulting in even faster scanning. Matterport has many places to improve such as solving the problem of having the RGB at the nodal point to get rid of parallax error, scanning outside (new IR depth sensors do this), and greater range. They can deliver on ALL of these things if they come up with a new camera that uses the Intel D435. -- Me thinks that Matterport are going to keep releasing hits. Only thing is that the users get upset when there's a new camera. Hopefully they'll give us a heads up this next time so that people don't go find their pitchforks again. |

Interesting to listen to the conversation about how Multivista views the Matterport Camera and working with the BLK 360 + Matterport to capture different spaces. Very positive statements made on behalf of the Pro-2. I could imagine that the Matterport Camera would be supported by some of MultiVista's capturing methods -- possibly already is (internal / non-commercial surveying applications)... Not sure about the BLK taking only 6 minutes at max quality (HDR5/High) (38:25)... took at least 10 for me the few times I tried it. I setup the BLK outside while shooting interior photography to fire off a few high quality scans for fun. 49:00 - Sounds like they are talking about SDK integration -- clicking on hotspots on a minimap to fly into any place on a Matterport tour. If anyone else wants this functionality, check out https://mpembed.com Lots of corporate jargon in the video ... 1:00:00 - Reaffirms that mines are very cool. And that Matterpak has true value to AEC... also that Capture is a well respected app... --- I think that to sum it up: Multivista is a trusted company that provides multiple solutions and trained field techs who can capture and document structures and deliver the assets within a custom platform that ties it all together. What makes them special is that they they do have strong strategic partnerships --- for instance, Matterport's SDK was in their hands before anyone else. They had v1.0/v1.1 which was private. The Hexagon / Multivista / Leica relationship seems to be that they are a conglomerate but each branch operates independently but delivers solutions to each other. It also allows them to have direct access with companies like Autodesk and Matterport ... good company to work with. -- I've said this quite a lot -- but if Matterport ends up being part of that conglomorate, I would not be surprised. Investors paid back (and handsomely) and a movement towards Matterport having enterprise solutions as well as consumer solutions. As the focus on enterprise will be where the $ is, I would imagine that consumers would be well taken care of too as the bottom line would be covered. I also suspect that this partnership is why Matterpak exists and why the pricepoint was established. Giving away the OBJ and point clouds wouldn't make sense given the value of these files to companies like Hexagon/Multivista. I imagine that their usage of Matterpak is funding further development / refinements, etc. Unfortunately, the necessary price introduction needed to be rolled out to all users (I still think that a low quality OBJ, like the one that JuMP is converting and exporting, would have been a nice consolation). -- Really happy that Brian and Zamon came on WGAN TV ... I like Brian quite a bit ... he seems like a curious guy who also knows how to navigate jargon and deliver innovative solutions to established businesses. Love seeing Matterport adoption in the AEC world. If anyone doubted its value, this video will make you rethink that. |

I wanted to point out that I appreciated the shout out at 1:24:15 concerning my 'bed risers' on the LEICA BLK 360 tripod . SUPER HAPPY TO HEAR that Leica is working on a new official tripod for people who'd rather opt for a normal height Bed Risers (classy) vs Standard Tripod with the Adaptor |

BTW - now that we can scan outside with the Leica BLK, we have a new problem. Now we need to be able to scan the rooftops via drone. to complete the dollhouse. Here are some new BLK Scans: It's now complete: It's 95% complete -- heading back next week to finish the dollhouse in the corners. |
