Why don't photographers lobby the MLS...6761

Is this true of all MLS services?

Cameras don't shoot at 4:3. TVs stopped being 4:3 years ago. Resolution at 4:3 is horrible. It's counter productive.

Why don't photographers band together, get Realtors on board, and so something about this?

In still camera photography, the most common aspect ratios are 4:3, 3:2 This is directly from Google Results when searching: What aspect ratio do most dslrs shoot at?

It appears in several areas of the search results.

Is anyone using 16:9? 16:9 Looks weird to me on photos (but great on video). The image sensor aspect ration on the Canon 1D (Pro Camera) is 3:2.

GH4 Sensor (2/3rds sensor) is 4:3.

The big issue is that there are so many MLS services with different requirements. Locally we have 4 different MLS boards, all but one have switched to 3:2... the funny thing is that they are all using the same platform.

Maybe what we should do is start a national MLS service that feeds to all local MLS. It wouldn't be to hard to setup and it would be great for third party services like WP3D. Who wants to do this with me?

@htimsabbub23 It's, unfortunately, a lot more complicated than you would think. There have been several failed attempts over the years to do just that, but they all fell flat shortly after they announced their efforts.

Our parent company has been developing MLS systems for over a decade. The major issue is that many MLS providers don't want to have a national database of listings... not only for control reasons but financial and compliance reasons as well. Nearly every State, County, and City have their own rules contract and disclosure laws and regulations with regards to real estate which must be followed.

Adopting a national system that takes all of this into consideration would be nearly impossible. You also have the significant issue of having to merge thousands of RETS databases that all use different fieldsets with literally thousands of different possible combinations and property types.

It's a nice idea in theory, but the MLS is best served by local providers.

What would be great is getting matterport to make the database available to search by area and then give real estate agents a lead capture function of "register to see all the 24/7 Open Houses available for sale" THAT would give you, the matterport provider, a lead capture weapon!

@Metroplex360 I have had that discussion with several MLS providers over the years. Their concern is that delivering larger photos will use up too many system resources and bandwidth. A rather copout answer I always thought considering nearly all of them use CDN delivery for most of their content these days.
