Hi All, In the Matterport Ecosystem announced yesterday (Wednesday, 21 February 2018), Matterport CEO Bill Brown writes: --- "Today, we’re taking an important step to develop the Ecosystem by changing our terms of services so that Matterport is granted a very limited license to use the 3D Spaces you have captured and made public when a property was sold or rented. This limited license will allow us to use a copy of these once-public 3D Spaces, privately, for the benefit of subsequent property owners or residents of the property. Keep in mind, this limited license in no way prevents you from doing anything you are currently able to do with your Matterport Spaces, it just helps to make this unique and powerful ecosystem possible." --- This feels Zombie-like. Something that we thought was dead because we deleted it - has supernaturally returned to life. Does Delete mean Delete? What are your thoughts? Dan |

Hi all, It said that it would only be private if the link did not go public (collaborators option) or if the owner requested to be private going forward. This seems like a terrible new structure. It’s one thing if we weren’t paying a subscription fee and then they pulled something like this, I would understand. Kind of like Gmail where you get a free email but they also get to use all your data which is actually pretty scary, when you think about it. However Matterport not only charges you money (subscription fee) for doing the work they are going to then going to be able to use it to their advantage. Everyone’s concern about their product and not having control over it has come true. I hate to be a pessimist but that’s how I read it. However they sure sell it like it’s a great thing! The nice thing about a group like this is we could form some sort of Union and I would like to think that maybe we would have some say. Well I’m typically not a fan of unions (very pro business as most of us are in business for ourselves I would think) in general this kind of behavior seems ridiculous. Thats my two sense! However maybe some of you love the new “ ecosystem” and I’m out on an island. When a company focuses too much on their bottom line at the expense of their customers the the very problem they were trying to fix could get exponentially worse. |
