WGAN-TV Live from Inman Connect - Matterport CEO Bill Brown and GeoCV Co-Founder Anton Yakubenko, PhD

Hi All,

Matterport CEO Bill Brown announced a new Matterport Augmented Reality (AR) app on stage at Inman Connect NY 2018 (TAG: ICNY18) today (see video above).

Using the - not yet released Matterport AR Open House App - a prospective home buyer can walk through a house of sale and "see" MatterTags to help augment the experience. For example, play a video that tells you about the kitchen.

Could someone indicate the time code below? (Begin and End)

Thanks,

Dan

Tech Connect: Virtual reality, 3-D technology will still need agents
Matterport and GeoCV share plans to further integrate 3-D and VR technology into real estate
BY EMMA HINCHLIFFE TODAY 8:01 A.M.

NEW YORK — Virtual reality and 3-D tours can help agents get more out of their listings but aren’t a threat to agents’ livelihood — experts said Tuesday at Tech Connect, a special morning of programming at Inman Connect New York.

GeoCV CEO Anton Yakubenko and Matterport CEO Bill Brown told the audience about their plans to further integrate 3-D and VR technology into real estate. They were joined by Compass broker Brian Lewis.

“It gives you the ability to tell the story about the property without having to physically be there,” Brown said.

The VR CEOs described how agents can already use consumer technology to make their own 3-D tours, for example, by capturing 360 degree images on their iPhone. Soon, they said, agents will be able to use their phones to create a full 3-D tour.

Last week Zillow Group unveiled a new, free app called Zillow 3D Home that will allow agents, brokers, and real estate photographers to capture home tours directly on their iPhones, and upload them to Zillow listings, though Brown draws a distinction between the appearance of Zillow’s 360-degree virtual tours and the 3-D dollhouse models Matterport is known for.

But the increasing prevalence of 3-D tours won’t eliminate the need for real estate agents, they assured the audience. Agents should manually add highlights to their tours so that when a client is experiencing a walkthrough through the home, they can click on a pop-up in the kitchen and learn more about an appliance or a fireplace.

And for clients who are “not digital natives,” some guidance on how to use VR technology might still be needed.

“One of the reasons why people use any kind of 3-D or VR is to differentiate themselves and differentiate their listings,” Yakubenko said. “If you put yourself in the tour, that makes it even more valuable than just showing the space in 3-D or VR.”

Beyond just using VR to show clients more realistic views of a home before they make the trip over, clients will be able to use augmented reality to learn more about the home while they’re touring it.

“We started off trying to bridge the physical world into the digital world,” Brown said. “Now we take all that digital content and try to bring it back into the physical.”

This summary generalizes quite a bit in its summary... I'm struggling with the audio from Dan's video - although it's great to see the visuals that both companies brought.

Nice Video! (starts at 6:25)

Matterport AR Open House App could be a nice feature for use in hospitality (hotels, restaurants, conferences centers, etc.) and shops (in addition to GSV).

My question:

As you already in the real house why do you need look at the small screen of your phone to get the MatterTag point?

It is funny!

@JuMP Even though this was debuted at Inman, as @MeshImages commented - the use-case for this in hospitality and retail is far more interesting.

I just want the ability to actually embed real 3D objects though Using Matterport + imported 3D objects will fulfill my objective to truly put Pokemon inside of spaces... and in AR, it would allow all sorts of fun gaming potentials ... scavenger hunts ... ghost hunts... etc.

@Metroplex360 Yes, agree. It is useful in gaming.
But not a good way in the video of Matterport's show.

@Jump When I saw the video today the idea that came across to me was while being in the space you have an almost- guided tour via your phone/Mattertags. The features that are tagged can speak while you are in the house. It could be seen as a bit gimmicky, however I think the general public will like it and, once again, its sets the Matterport user against their competitors.

As long as everything is branded with/by Matterport, not customizable as also not brandable with the customers or no brand I see not a big market for "professionals". Most brands have already their own apps and if they invent new features they want to have this in their own apps. Not in a 3rd party branded app as with this NO customer relationship is possible.

@Metroplex360

That's because Matterport reads every word of the WGAN Forum, though not necessary on the weekends
