Not in the day light ???
These cameras work best outside in the early or late day or clouds...

Hey 3DPlus,

I'm a Matterport newbie as well (currently using both pro and pro2) and from my current knowledge this seems to be kind of a difficult scan to accomplish because of the camera limitations.

So of course, like Douglas mentioned up top, not in the day light. From the picture I see that there are trees on the perimeter of the square, I'd suggest taking advantage of those tree shades as much as possible. Maybe scan the perimeter first and work your way towards the center where there is less natural shade.

I'm eager to see the feedback from the real pros!

Good Luck!

@3DPLUS
@AugustoAbreu

While it is possible to scan massive, outdoor spaces with Matterport, it's typically not the right solution for outdoor scanning.

The short "how to" answer is that the Camera can never see the sun. Clouds blocking the sun do not count.

Above is an example of a large, outdoor Matterport 3D Tour I did. It took me two days and I began scanning at the moment of sunrise. Once the sun was visible, I had to stop.

It's also possible to scan during dusk.

If you decide to go forward with the project, I encourage you to manage the expectations of your client and to do a test first.

Even for a seasoned Pro, this is a challenging outdoor space to scan.

Any reason not to use Matterport 360ยบ Views to do outdoors?

Happy New Year,

Dan

P.S. If you tell me how this scan will be used, I may have an alternative solution to recommend.

@3DPLUS - My recommendation is to bring a VERY tall tripod with you so that you can attempt to raise the Matterport SUPER HIGH to capture and complete the dollhouse of that cathedral.

As suggested, do not scan the outside in DIRECT sunlight as the Matterport camera uses Infra-red to measure distance. Direct sunlight destroys this. It works perfectly at dawn/dusk when the ground is even. Keep this in mind. It doesn't have to be night time. Be sure to scan close to objects.
