Help! Big Matterport Scan to be done5925

Riaan private msg quote post Address this user
I am fairly new Matterport service provider and only recently became a MSP. Done a few scans mainly averaged sized houses and one mid-size warehouse. My next job is however a monster of some 7000 square meters (75,000 feet) namely a convention centre combined with an ice rink. The client is OK with it that the centre and ice rink be done as separate models and they don't want everything to be scanned like their office's etc.

I have included a few photos below to give an idea of what the space consist of. The convention centre consist of a main theater (1560 square meters/16,791 square feet), banqueting hall (1365 square meters/14,692 square feet), training venue (378 square meters/4,069 square feet) and few smaller meeting venues (ranging from 130 to 264 square meters/1,399 to 2,841 square feet) and the ice rink the actual rink (1400 square meters/15,069 square feet) surrounding by seating and arena gallery (350 square meters/3,767 square feet).

This leaves the total area to be scanned at about 5900 square meters (63,500 square feet) out of the total 7000 square meters. I'm hoping to be creative so as to limit the number of scans to be done (see below).

I have read all the WGAN discussions about scanning big spaces and have a few additional questions.

1. For the main theater I assume it would be OK to scan the stage and flat seating area in front of it but as far as the tiered seating is concerned it would be good enough to only scan up the steps making sure that at the top it links to a previous/next scan point? This should limit the number of scan points to be done.
2. The entrance level in the font of the main theater has steps going to the various levels of the theater making it about four floor levels to be scanned. When doing the scan should I treat these as four separate floors and will it then align OK with the theater and its tiered seating?
3. For the ice rink I'm thinking of only scanning the seating area surrounding the rink and the arena gallery and to only do a 360 degree shot in the middle of the ice rink. This would limit the number of scans to be done but will this work out OK?

In addition to the aforementioned the client is also very specific in terms of what they want and from our interaction I also require your advise about the following:

1. I explained to the client what they will get as an end product and how the embed code will work. They are however concerned about what would happen if I'm not around anymore and they want to do an updated scan but don't have access to uploaded model. For this reason they insist that I guarantee them access somehow to the uploaded model's back-end in case I'm not around anymore. Have any body else had similar requests and how should I respond?
2. They have as an extension to the scope of work requested that I also scan the three main venues (main theater, banqueting hall and training venue) when staged for an event but also when its open and not in use. Apart from the fact that this will increase the overall number of scans to be done as well as the size of the model I'm not sure that this can be achieved in only one model? What I thought to suggest is to take 360 degree scans of the said there venues and to process them and link them in Mattertags to be included in the staged scans of the venue. Will this work?

Sorry for the rather long post but this scan although scares the hell out of me and I need to get all the advice I can!

Check this out I scanned the bottom level as floor one and each tier after that as floors. Originally it was over 600 scans but Matterport could t get it to process so I had to remove over 100 scans it is now around 500

@Riaan

Congrats on your upcoming large scan.

Here's why the ice rink will come out black in the dollhouse view and the potential - though not practical solutions. (You might disable the dollhouse view for the ice rink.

Is Matterport the right solution for a space this size?
