| @pixelray - Hopefully not. Could you imagine Matterport being bogged down by dealing with the demands of a new wave of shareholders? I believe that staying private is key to innovation. I would like to believe that the investment that they have taken has been selective and strategic so far. I'm not an expert -- but I believe that if public, another company could buy a majority share and seriously interfere with innovation. @ChemistryDoc - I believe that Google and their platform is the problem. If Matterport delivered right now, I believe they would have a VERY difficult time explaining Google Street View and what it does to MSPs. GSV is in a very unsatisfactory state right now and its very difficult to deliver on client expectations with 'See Inside' gone and constant outages in services; little to no optimization for the panos (no tiling); and needing to hope and pray for the 'blue line' fairy to visit to connect your tour to the street if you scanned along a road with hopes of connecting to the outside world. The former 'Google Trusted Photographers' are having a very difficult time right now. I think that Matterport might consider communicating with us what their thoughts are towards GSV and where they are right now. If the hold up is, as I suspect, a weak target platform -- then they might swap strategies or just run the BETA and open up a support forum that is community based and pledge to NOT support the product in any way shape or form while in BETA. |
