Over exposed Scans5462

BobbyG private msg quote post Address this user
Hello

Was any upgrade in the Matterport Camera giving other people overexposed results?
I know these examples were similar for blue sky those days.

I put alot into selling and producing these things. But I feel like something isn't right with the camera
NYC market doesn't even need this because everything is under contract before I even show up with a camera.

Does anyone know what the last few upgrades included? Looking for that list.
Hope I can get some honest opinions !
Thanks
Bobby G

This was my first scan last year 2016

@BobbyG

Congrats on great models (with great clients). And, nice job trimming ...

Looking at your most recent model, while I would agree that it is bright, I do not believe it is over exposed: simply the time of day that you scanned with a ton of light pouring in the windows.

That's the result that I would expect with Matterport. No changes to firmware or Capture App.

To control light/exposure/brightness, the only thing you have control over is when you scan. And, yes, I can imagine that you scan when your client tells you that you have access, etc. That said, if the sun was on the entrance side, the HDR would have looked much better - the views inside and outside. The inside would not have been so bright and the outside would have been darker.

BTW, why didn't you scan near the windows? It's the view that sells these $1+ units: not the inside.

I could imagine that others disagree with me.

Best

Dan

P.S. Pro tip when you have access to a Space and the client is willing to paid top $$$$ for awesome results.

1. Scan the property once
2. Scan the property a second time at magic hour with just the scans you need to tell the story. Hide all other scans.
3. When you hide scans, they still get used to construct the dollhouse view

None of them look over exposed to me.

Thanks Dan and Thanks Helen for the quick response.

I did this scan at 10 am. The location is 200 ft from the Hudson River and a short walk from times Square. The windows were all facing west or South west. It was bright but I feel, and the customer complained that the still photos are all washed out and over exposed.
I agree. I don't understand why the HDR doesn't look proper.
I realize the Snapshots are not a selling point either.

So the sun was not on my side of the building, I have done scans before using the same time and technique.

I like the idea of doing two scan, but that is not very cost effective.
Feedback welcome on these.

The is another example if a 9 am shoot, but this one is all windows.
My favorite scan.

And right next door, I did another 45,000 sqft plate, and this one has glitches.
And because of this scan, I made signs for large floor plates. N S E and W.
I will place 3 signs of every direction on the proper windows, facing the proper direction.

@BobbyG

If you give Matterport SnapShots to clients, I recommend that you either edit them in Lightroom or send them to @JonJ Photo Sparc. It's the difference between night and day.

Best,

Dan

P.S. Running out the door shortly. I ran out of time to review your additional imagery ...

I use lightroom with all photos. Snapshots don't give you alot of quality to work with.
They are saved in bytes.

And it only really fixes the 3D to 2D aspect.

@Bobby On the new ones you posted the spaces are not very well lit so I can understand the camera having the bright windows when trying to brighten up the interior. When you get close to the windows the view and everything looks great.
