First shot at an outdoor scan. I tried to outline the border of where I wanted the scan to end with windows. I think I must have left a few gaps though because its not real clean on the edges. Any advice on fixing that and setting the edge for outdoor scans? Can you mark overlapping windows? Thanks for the help, I didn't even know outdoor scans were possible till looking on here yesterday. |

From my experience, just trim and no windows looks cleanest.

I guess this is a dumb question but how do you trim?

No such thing as a dumb question...mirrors, windows and trim. I'd be surprised if you hadn't used it.

"The Matterport system is currently intended to capture interior spaces of up to 10,000 sq ft only. Exterior scans are only possible in limited circumstances," says this Matterport web page (7 February 2015). Obviously this does not apply to members of our Forum 10 Tips for Shooting Outdoors with the Matterport Pro 3D Camera Dan |

@alx3D Great outdoor scan. Trim all outdoor spaces as if they are windows. Dan |

Thats a great view. Did you try scanning out closer to the pool? I think it would of worked considering the good shade you had out there. I would maybe set the boundaries a little tighter but overall cool scan.

I did not venture out any further but realize from seeing the shade now that I probably could have. I was hesitant for the first time but will get a little more adventurous next time.

This is our first outside scan with a full walkdown to a beach / dock, pretty happy with it. is anyone else getting distortion of decking and railings? Ive noticed this on the last few, wonder if I'm maybe doing something wrong... have got the manfrotto tripod mounted directly to the camera. |

Hey DRKNorth Awesome scan, beautiful place. The alignment issue comes from the camera is pasting 18 pictures together to make the "dome" that you view. Slight offset from where the pictures are taken from causes this mesh alignment to look a little off. Usually you can't notice it unless its a very distinct pattern like railing or a tile floor. More on this from this thread: https://www.wegetaroundnetwork.com/topic/203/banister-alignment/ |

@DRKNorth nice work. It also appears as though the levels may not have worked out correctly. If you walk in the back/side door from the beach path 2 levels share the same axis. How did you differentiate in capture? Perhaps it is something you could edit and re-upload...

@DRKnorth , that's so cool. I had trouble with this scan outside. after i moved up a step, it couldn't align any longer. had to move to other areas. |

@CarlosFHdz Nice job on the outdoor portions. You might try using the window trim tool on the outer edge of the outdoor area. While it's not perfect, it does help define the model. Here's an example of a 1,000 sf outdoor Penthouse terrace overlooking Piedmont Park in Atlanta ... |

I saw that one, thanks for sharing. I posted it once it was done processing. I'm already went back to trim some more. I'm experimenting with others by marking a window to help show what's past the border set with dollhouse view. Some come out good, others come out weird. I'll repost once I get it good. Thanks for the tip Dan. |

@CarlosFHdz The good news is that you do not get charged for reprocessing. Adding window trim to outdoor spaces is more art that science. So, experiment with the exact placement. Plus, when you add the window trim, you will eliminate stray matter. Dan |

Trying to figure out how to eliminate the blackness of the pool area when viewing as doll house. Otherwise, I think this turned out well for my first outdoor scan |

@AyaMHadden In this Matterport User Group Forum thread, Brain Teasers, I discuss how to solve the "black hole" of pools/whirlpools in Floor Plan and Dollhouse views. Best, Dan |
