Hi All,

This Matterport Service Provider compares pricing of two competitors - by name - on their home page.

What do you think? Good or bad idea and why?

Dan

P.S. On the side-by-side comparison, one Matterport Service Provider offers 2D Floor plans for $99 and the other at $69. Bundle - or offer as an optional extra - 2D schematic floor plans. High perceived value.

"[redacted]"... the leader and first name in the race to the bottom.

Personally I'd say no... they are not describing a superior service just that you can get it for less. Further the more they advertise and get noticed the more likely they are to simply piss off the competition which in turn only leads to cheaper and cheaper prices.

Also you are inviting the visitor to your site to copy, past, and google the competition. Heck they may not have even known about the other guy. Now what happens when your competitors price has changed? I'd imagine the visitor who saw your only value proposition being price now sees a lower price and is left think maybe your shading in posting the wrong price and "Great now I can get the same scan for less".

What do I know... you asked for an opinion so I obliged.

Those are very cheap prices, that's only going to hurt the market. $149 is barely acceptable for a 1,000 sf. They should know best imho.

@LewisBishop
@CelisNet

Here's a discussion about low pricing ...

$0.05 a SQ FT: Matterport 3D/VR + MatterTags

If possible, trying to have a discussion about "Compare Matterport Pricing to Competitors?" in this discussion.

Okay?

Dan

Wow I'm horrified! I know business is competitive but that's brutal!

I hope he never needs anyone's help if things (or his camera) come crashing down cause I can't see anyone caring!

When will people learn that cheapest isn't necessarily best!

Captain Obvious Alert: by comparing prices, anyone with a gram of business sense can see that not only this person (1) leaves money on the table (2) slashes his margin (3) and eliminated any sense of profit to operate and fund any new equipment, personnel or marketing.
I'm suspicious that the tours are shortchanged by not covering fully the scannable areas. For example, let's say a dining room is 20x20 - 400 sq feet. A good immersive experience would be to take a lap around the table to experience the room in its entirety. 9 scans or one could cut corners by peeking into the room at 1 scan. At those prices (minus the hosting fee) one could be motivated to scan a house with the bare minimum of scans (and leave your car running) or do a great job only to make $7.00 an hour after cost of goods. It's the same amount of effort to do the bare minimum as it does to raise the standard by doing excellence work that is worthy of compensation.

I won't be concerned by this Goliath of a company. If you have to judge a book by its cover aka website then yes they LOOK cheap. Looks like their site was produced or created when the internet was invented. If it was slick and professional looking, then I would say okay what's up with this company and can take them serious as a "BIG" player by offering "market leading" pricing [insert redacted sarcastic comment]. This is just plain desperation for business good luck in ever increasing your pricing or making money business 101.

Something I have learned in sales, never ever bad mouth your competition, show why YOU are better.

I would keep an eye on EBAY for a Matterport Camera being sold very soon in Arizona.

In my opinion for sure this is a no go.

Have I missed something?

This looks like you could visit and view a space directly on Facebook if you don´t know that this is currently not possible.

Look at the URL: https://dev-app.matterport.com/

@mori, yeah I checked it out does not make any sense, one word comes to mind - CLICKBAIT, you click we sell you a camera.

Must say looks like someone in their marketing department either is starting to do their job, just a pity they are not putting that same effort into getting the showcases in consumers heads. That is much easier to do than to try and sell cameras. But what do I know, I don't have a marketing, branding, Post Hole Digging (PHD) or sales degree.
