Hi All,

Great news ...

A groundswell for 3D and VR is happening in residential real estate marketing.

The Wall Street Journal - in its Mansion section today (Friday, 23 June 2017) reports:

"Sotheby's International Realty adopted 3-D photography in September, and now about 10% of its listings include 3-D photo tours. About 5% of the company's 880 offices world-wide currently have virtual-reality viewing areas, where clients can view 3-D property pictures on a screen or while wearing VR headsets. In five years, the company should have such viewing areas in every office, said John Passerini, Global vice president of interactive marketing."

---

10% is an exciting number!

Exciting to see Sotheby's offering 3D/VR viewing areas. I could imagine that if they did all of their offices within the next 6 to 12 months - rather than five years - they would have a worldwide competitive advantage. "Come in to our Tokyo office and see The Residences at the Mandarin Oriental in Atlanta."

Your thoughts about the above news?

Best,

Dan

Slowly but surely, everyone is starting to use this technology but more important, clients are starting to know about it. When more brokers start to use this, the clients will also expect it to be used on their listing.

Do they own the Matterport cameras or contact a MSP to do the scans?

You have an advantage with a Sotheby's agent or brokerage because their branding is premium and innovative service. If they are not using Matterport then they are saying they are a 5 star chef that serves jello pudding.

"As a Sotheby's agent you work under their rules and policies that dictate a Sotheby's level of excellence. If you say you offer premier service and innovative ways to market their property and don't use this technology then you are misleading your client and under representing your Sotheby's brand"

You can share and embed this video but you cannot copy it and upload it anywhere but this helps get more Sotheby's business.

Good Luck

Thanks Glen for posting that. Very helpful. I'm a long time marketing guy - so this type of stuff is great to read.

Yes! Sotheby's has been quick on the uptake as a whole. They quickly integrated 3D tours into their website right along photos and videos.

I work pretty much exclusively with a Sotheby's affiliate and it is great how supportive they are of new tech so they can be in the cutting edge.

Now, if I could just get individual agents to be as onboard.

Its out of their hands. They have an obligation to uphold the marketing standards of the company they hang their license with.

Show them they are not upholding their agreement with sotheby's to comply with the marketing brand they have and without this they look like [insert local brokerage name THEY think are beneath them and don't deserve a sotheby's type of client here]

Then if they are still dense use then tell them to google "altman brothers matterport videos"

If they STILL don't get it start looking at the person next to them shaking their head yes and let what you showed the other person sink in.
