Spiral staircase scanning issues3896

kaybaum private msg quote post Address this user
I hope someone in the forum can give me some guidance here. I scanned a home today with a metal spiral staircase. (I've scanned a home previously with a wooden spiral staircase with no problem). I placed the tripod about every 2 steps so I thought there wouldn't be a problem navigating to the top floor. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. When trying to navigate to the top floor, I notice the white circles on the steps don't light up when I try to point & click directly on them. Have I done something wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Here's the link

might be your railings are too thin and viewed as non solid, hence u fly off the rails and land on the 1st floor again.

how i managed to climb up your stairs is to look upwards to the ceiling and click on those circles, and not on a circle that 'behind' it is still the 1st floor.

I don't know if this a solution, but you could try to mark the handrail of the stair as multiple mirrors, and re-upload, that would force to consider that "line" as a hard element, hopefully.

Well, marking the spiral stairs as mirrors didn't work. I have now just marked it as windows & re-uploaded it just to see if that will work. I'm guessing it probably won't though. I'll keep you posted.

When I initially climbed the stairs and entered the upstairs room I had no problem. I reread your email and you mentioned navigating using the circles. When I tried to climb the stairs using the circles I saw your problem immediately.
I find the circles unnecessary. I navigate the rooms on Matterport by clicking on the walls, furniture and staircase. I am new to Matterport, so when I start to demonstrate to prospective clients I am considering telling them to ignore the circles and just tap on the direction they want to go. What do you think? (apologies for jockeying my question on to Kay's)

aristepp - marking the stairs as windows, as I suspected, did not work either. As I mentioned before, a wide wooden spiral staircase I did earlier had no issues. Maybe its the width of the staircase? I'm not sure.

As GeoffLangan mentioned. It is possible to get to the top floor, just not as easily as normal.

Thanks for all the comments & suggestions!
