| Hi All! Matterport were kind enough to reach out to me to let me know that they are making changes to the platform that may break MP2SQFT+. Sure enough, it's broken. Ouch. I am searching for a way to remedy the issue! Wish me luck! |

| Tours shot prior to 1/26/17 will still continue to be compatible. It's a change to their processing - they no longer are storing the calculations within the tour. My optimistic thought about this is that they may have optimized their processing to provide us with faster turn-around speeds at the cost of this data. I do know that this data can be calculated by downloading the OBJ file and processing it yourself... not that I know how, but I have seen it done and calculate the M2/SQFT. |

| I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out how to fix this and I'm pretty much out of options. #1) The data no longer exists in new models. #2) I do not know how to recreate it from within Showcase -- I've attempted using the internal API and looking through the geometry values of the chunks that make up the rooms ... I -believe- that all of the triangles and points are stored in it as Showcase obviously renders the model -- but it's a bit over my head and I'm not certain that the data is stored in a manner that can be used. #3) I've imported the OBJ files into multiple applications that can provide an 'area' calculation. One, that I quite like is NetFabb. NetFabb is now owned by AutoDesk, but before acquisition, the last great version was freely distributed (encouraged) and it can be downloaded here: https://github.com/3DprintFIT/netfabb-basic-download/releases Download your OBJ file and drag it (just the .obj) into netfabb and you'll receive a nice, pretty area measurement. For a model that is 122.54 square meters, NetFabb told me this was 6.6003 square centimeters. Of course, the scale is not present. I compared this to another model that was 14.3728 square centimeters. The data from MP2SQFT+ was 252.84 square meters. I compared this to look for a scale value ... and one would have been 17.59156, one would be 18.565822. The values are off. Why is this? Well, it occurred to me that Matterport's method of calculation is different than NetFabb. Perhaps Matterport is filling in gaps? Perhaps NetFabb is including walls. It's fun to use this tool as it's quite easy to play with. As far as finding consistency that can be used... I'm out of ideas. -- If you need proper measurements... use an iGuide Camera System. -- I do not know why Matterport removed measurements. Perhaps it was just wasted processing power that was serving no one any benefit except MP2SQFT+ users. Perhaps Matterport have abandoned plans to use these metrics. Perhaps Matterport have an automatic way of providing these measurements by using the model and calculating on the fly? I don't really know. I do know that being able to measure the area that I scanned was very helpful with honest billing; not to mention a nice way to see if the client gave incorrect dimensions. -- MP2SQFT+ is officially out of service for any new models submitted after Jan 25, 2017. |

| After -another- round of poking around, I realized something very simple. The room dimensions are still where they were the first time I wrote MP2SQFT. They are still stored in a little CSV file that along with the 'colormaps' is restricted from public access. Therefore, don't lose hope yet. Matterport can provide this information and integrate it into Workshop. Here's hoping for this new feature! |
