Video: Samsung USA Head of VR Marketing Bachir Zeroual @Ze_Bach| Watch for VR to become social in 2017

Samsung announced at CES 2017 that it sold 5 million Samsung Gear VR.

This VR Day Atlanta presentation (above) today (12 January 2017) gives us insight to what Samsung thinks about where VR is headed: social-social-social.

What do you think?

Dan

Thanks for the link. Interesting dilemma. I'd like a Google Daydream phone -- the Axon 7's pretty cheap. But after paying over $1000 on my Note 5 and S6, I'm not ready to spend more money just to experience VR on a different platform (Google's).

In addition, there are rumors about an Apple AR or VR device in development. And in March, 300 million Windows devices will become VR devices and five manufacturers have shown headsets to run in Windows. They say Vive has outsold the Rift two to one.

Then there's Playstation VR which is selling well and who knows when or if Google Cardboard fans will dwindle. VTime, a popular social VR app can also run on ordinary Cardboard and Daydream -- no Facebook headsets required.

On the other hand, Facebook shows up every time you put on a Gear VR and Facebook owns social media. But with so many VR platforms to choose from, will Facebook members interested in many headsets spend money to buy a Gear VR or Rift simply to experience social VR? Maybe a killer Facebook app like Farmville VR might make all Facebook members buy an Oculus headset.
