Hi folk See picture attached, I am scanning an auditorium today and am wondering should I be adding floors as I go for the 2nd and 3rd tiers which have stairs leading to them |

That was the most difficult decision for me when I scanned LampLight Theatre When I began, I loaded up 5 floors because there were multiple levels on the stage and then when I started scanning. I began in the orchestra pit section just in front of center stage on the floor, then I did stage right on the floor and stage left on the floor. I scanned all three of those positions as floor 1 and proceeded to the stage. I marked the main stage area as floor 2, then as I approached the risers, I moved to floor three. That's where it got Tricky. I had a bunch of alignment errors at that level. And with actors frozen in position, I did the best I could and moved on. Once I returned to the house section, I marked the middle section of seats as floor 1 as well and then once I was back toward the doors, I marked the higher part of the seats as floor 2. To my advantage, a lot of the Av team was located in the balcony. If I had scanned the balcony then, I'm not sure how I would have connected it. The really wild part is that when I got the finished scan back, it only showed as 2 floors.Im notbsure why, but it works. :-D Hope that helps! |

The floors are only to keep track of the scans on the iPad, technically you could scan a multilevel property without adding any floors. When Matterport is processing the raw data it detects changes in floors and adds them automatically, which is why the geometry of the dollhouse sometimes looks strange between floors and the fact that there´s no relation between the number of floors in the capture app and the finished model. Good luck with this one, when you reach a certain point and amount of captured data I´ll be surprised if you don´t run into alignment issues as a lot of the geometry here will look quite similar for the camera. |

@3DscannUK That explains why you still need a reference point when transitioning to a new floor. Thank You!

Thanks for all your feedback, as always fast and helpful. Off and running will share finished model when it goes public!

Here are a couple of auditoriums that I scanned, if you want to look at the dollhouse view (which can be a challenge with the high ceilings: How to embed a Matterport Spaces 3D Tour in the Forum. Best, Dan |
