I was recently approached by a company who saw my work and asked if I'd like to provide the service en mass- his company has 1000's of properties that requires scanning. He became aware of Matterport via a Matterport sales call and as part of his negotiations with me he said this :- "Matterport itself doesn't really take that much skill, it's just time. Once you have the 3600USD camera, you just drop it in position and let it do it's thing" And because Matterport have told him a monkey can do it he's proposing $100 per property as a rate. He's told me this dispite not having used the camera yet. His only knowledge of the procedure comes from a YouTube video and a Matterport sales man . So is Matterport selling cheap cameras as well as misinforming their customers ? |

I would encourage him to buy his own camera and move on. | ||

That's just it @Metroplex360 - He has - My point in this thread is that it appears Matterport have discounted it also . My question is have other people heard of Matterport discounting cameras or giving cameras away to high volume clients ? P.s I've offered this customer the offer of training and consultancy now instead of my monkey skills. |

Matterport is indeed misinforming their customers... I became aware of Matterport and 3D scans via the web and read a bit on their website and decided that it would be great to be a service provider. I went ahead and purchased the camera at the full price (small fortune for me) and thought it would be "set up, connect to iPad and press a button". How wrong I was. My first scan had so much non-alligment and looked hideous. Had trouble going trough doors, etc. I started experimenting, doing a lot of free scans for clients so that I could gain experience and better myself with every scan. So at least I know that I am not a monkey :-) The only easy part is getting the camera linked with the iPad and launching the capture app. It takes brains and experience when things goes south during a scan project and the customer are watching you and demanding results... he is paying for a professional service so you need to deliver what he is paying for and having a problem and looking out of your depth would definitely not inspire confidence. I am glad that I had a steep learning curve till now, and will continue gaining experience on shoots. Experience is the one thing you can never transfer in an instant to another person. It takes time, and time is money. |
