I guess they can't be sure of square footage of rooms. Say your have a big wardrobe on a room hiding the corner of 2 walls.. this wardrobe will change the overall shape of the 3D room and thus if you automate the calculation based on the available perimeter/area you won't get the correct result of the built area. Also, there are much more complex situations for automatic measurements. Computer vision might solve this one day.. For now, human inteligence is needed behind each measurement, and this doesn't interest a startup like Matterport, focused on scalable automated solutions. Check this out... hopelly "estimating unseen 3D surfaces" is what you're looking for and might get any time soon: https://www.wegetaroundnetwork.com/topic/2565/mp-200-million-images-220000-locations |

@hometakes your wish is my command! Awesome tool @DanSmigrod, thanks! This is another punch on the "cheaper 360 only" guys.. We just need to get clients aware of the small variations to real size. A fail proof application though is giving the precise cost of 3D scanning to a client in the end. 3D rules, and it's just the infancy! |

MP2SQFT shows the visual map of the tour with regions color coded. It then shows the SQFT and M2 for each section and allows you to toggle each of them on and off. I've done many real world comparisons to make sure the data is correct - and it's very close. If we are using this to bill a client based on SQFT scanned, it's 100% correct. If we are using this to measure a building, then we can use the data and remove rooms that were not completely scanned and add known SQFT into our own calculations. I could add a tool where you replace the values with your own ... but that would make this rather complex. Feedback is always welcome | ||
