I gave a half effort trying to find the costs of this after it's purchased and didn't find it.

IS there a cost afterward?

There's no additional cost Steve unlike MP where your have ongoing charges to host your model. With the Theta S you process and host all of your content. You can also easily upload your final 360's to Facebook as well

Hmm....I do Matterport, still pictures and (FINALLY)doing Drone services (first appointment is on Tuesday, Yay!).

I have struggled whether I should invest in this product as it seems every day I'm hearing about a new product that is offering 360 views.

Plus, I'm not sure what the demand will be if I were to introduce it and what is the financial pain threshold that a Realtor will pay. Of course, the investment is pennies compared to MP but it doesn't make it a 'smart' investment.

By itself I'm not impressed. However,if it can be used creatively with another product (and the cost is reasonable) it might be worth it.

@StevenHattan Congrats on your first drone appt. I am thinking about getting into that as well. Would love to hear/see how it goes for you. Also, I'm curious about what licensing you may have had to do in order to begin. The rules confuse me!

Thanks and good luck!

We started using the Ricoh Theta to add a 360° photo of the front or back yard and build it into a site using the WP3D model.

It literally takes 2 additional minutes at the house and maybe 5 minutes more to upload the photo and then add it to the site.

It's not even an upsell for us. We just do it to further impress the client.

Queen City, I think thats the real benefit of the Theta 360. It's not enough of a product to be a standalone but a great thing to add to your kit to give them a little more for very little time invested. Similar to how we approach with the WP3D models single property websites.

I have my Ricoh Theta S in my bag too. I have clients who want Street View and want 3D Tours of outside areas ... so, for the low price, it's cool to accomodate.

Here's a 360º photo sphere platform I am playing with:

round.me

For examples, here are some 360º photo spheres I shot last night (24 July 2016) using the Ricoh Theta S. Even in low restaurant lighting, they came out pretty good.

Dan

P.S. Try sharing round.me examples on Facebook.

@DanSmigrod

It looks like you uploaded the theta shots to the round.me site, is that right?

It's neat that you have the 3 "hero shots" to choose from (i.e., "Kiss", "Cake" and "Cheers" and then it loads whichever one you click on in the screen.

Would that round.me format work within the "3rd Party Content" solution of the WP3D plug-in?

I've been using the theta images in that 3rd Party Content area, but can only pick one Theta image to showcase. It would be nice to have the option to have multiple 360° images there.

Hey guys....sorry for the late chime in here.

The "round.me" tool is great, and YES, this will pop right into the "3rd Party Content" tool that is already part of WP3D Models.

You just need to vary what you paste a hint:

Instead of the stock link:
https://roundme.com/tour/63597/view/157283/

You'd paste this:
https://roundme.com/embed/63597/157283

This corrected link can be found by looking closely at the code found in the iframe embed that they provide.

Yes. At least two solutions for Ricoh Theta S walk-throughs:

1. ICSF16 ImmoViewer 3D/VR versus Matterport

2. Google Street View (think of it as free hosting)

I use the Ricoh Theta S to publish to Google Street View.

I will post examples the week of 22 August 2016, if someone else hasn't done so by then.

Please see this page too please.

Hi Dan, Was wondering if you were able to get the example of the google street view walk through that you did with the theta S. Also, do you know if the theta S will allow to publish the walkthroughs to Google Business View via the google street view app?

Thanks ahead!

Hi @quintongw

It looks like @TrustedPhotoDC was able to post examples (above).

I did not get to do the testing and publishing that I had hoped to do over the holiday weekend.

My impression is that Google Business View and Google Street View are bending into the same thing and eventually will have one name.

That said, using the Google Street View app, you can publish 360ºs taken with the Ricoh Theta S to Google Street View (and it should) be usable by Google View View.

Perhaps another Member that is a Google Trusted Photographer can comment on this.

In the mean time, here are two ways to convert and publish Matterport Spaces to Google Maps/Google Street View:

MP2SV: Matterport to Google Street View Service
Howner: Matterport Spaces to Google Street View

Best,

Dan

@quintongw @dansmigrod Dan, Google Business View ceased to be a product in September 2015. It was replaced with Google Street View Trusted(a service of Street View). On July 27th, Street View Trusted opened to the masses(basic qualifications, no testing, and basic, if any knowledge of photography needed. Google says quality will matter, but this does not appear to be enforced at this time.

The one major difference between those "trusted" or in the process of being "trusted" is that they continue to have access to the Street View editor. Joining after July 27th, 2016, the only tool that an individual can use to moderate in Street View is via the Street View app(until the new Map Uploader is released). Individual photospheres can also be added via a desktop browser in maps under the 'Add a Photo', but there is no way to moderate, as there was with Google Views. FYI, if the metadata in the image is incorrect, the image will not appear as photosphere, but only in equirectangular projection.

One other item that has caught my attention with the recent addition of stitching & moderation services is the improper use of the attribution via the Street View editor. This is Google's policy still in effect for the Street View editor(I asked the question this morning and this is the response).

This image is not rendering at full size so here is the text.

Hi Street View | Trusted!

Just a friendly reminder that it is very important to set your attribution in your Street View editor to correctly reflect the format listed in our Help Center. Tour attributions are used to track and attribute shoots to the correct photographer/agency for certification.

To set your attribution, please go to the Street View Editor and click on "account" on the left hand side. You will then need to enter your attribution into the fields which should only include the information below:

For Trusted Photographers: Photographer's name (make sure you enter your First and Last name), Photographer's business name

For Trusted Agencies: Agency’s business name

Thanks for your attention,

If used right, the camera can be useful. Quality depends a lot on the amount of light, and NOT using the auto setting, especially indoors.

The more dynamic range in the the scene, the more the camera will struggle. To avoid blowouts, use the 3rd party HDR apps to shoot the proper number of exposures. This of course adds steps to the workflow and at what point is too many added steps the equal of using the preferred method?

The idea for this camera is low cost of acquisition and high volume. It is the only way it works in a business model. As the evolution of the camera continues, the 5k rig will only be pulled out for work that Google is not the first screen.

We'll continue to test with the Theta-S and workflows.
